Hello

New year is coming and we have few surprises as well 🎁

We have been using off-the-shelf sensors for our plastic shredder units so far. However we were planning to implement our own solution for more precise and reliable experience for users.

So we decided to develop our own temperature and optical sensor for Polystruder GR PRO.

What is special about those sensors?

They have error detection mechanism. So when sensor fail is detected machine will warn user. Our previous implementation was also had a built-in security feature where disables the screen. However we went further and made some changes to our GR-Circuit board to work in conjunction with new sensors.

Temperature sensor is also much sensitive and responsive now compared to old one. It is also more suitable for lower temperature range since our previous sensor actually designed for very high temperature applications which we implemented some software magic to make it work with our plastic shredder units.

From now on all the new 2024 units will come with our own sensor set. Only downside is they are not compatible with 2023 series plastic shredders due to different PCB board layout and firmware differences.

Hi everyone,

Here is another small but important detail that will make everybody's life a bit easier.

We have been investigating how to accommodate a plastic hopper that will save tons of space during shipping, not cost a fortune to manufacture, be lightweight, durable, easy to assemble, easy to clean, allow the plastic to glide, and look sexy.

We tried several design iterations over the course of 2 years since I started working on the extruder, and this is probably the 20th iteration of the hopper design. Earlier versions were 3D printed, but it was taking so much time to print. Additionally, it is impossible to ship it in a single piece due to the space it was taking.

I even considered not shipping the hopper with the machines, so users can print it themselves, but this creates 3 problems. It costs around half a roll of filament, there is a possibility of wasted material and time due to possibility of print failure, and sometimes plastic pellets might get stuck between layer lines of printed hopper, which does not allow the shredded or raw material to glide easily.

So the solution is obvious. It has to be a design that should be shipped with the machine, made with aluminum to allow a lightweight design, and assembled by the customer in less than 10 minutes. Actually, this is the only thing that requires assembly by a customer from now on since we will ship all the machines assembled!

After several iterations, we have come up with the following design. It is made from 1.6mm aluminum, which is super lightweight, and takes up minimal space when disassembled. It can be removed from the machine with just 4 screws in under a minute and can be washed with regular water if needed. It has a volume of about 1 liter that should last for an hour of extrusion. And it looks much better than the competitor's machine itself 😛.

I am really eager to test this system's capabilities. But the real fun is going to be writing firmware for it 😆.

Since we started developing our filament extrusion line for additive manufacturing back in late 2020, we have had only one target in mind: reducing plastic waste. Today, we are one step closer to achieving that goal.

We started developing our first product, the polystruder XR PRO, at the end of 2020, and over time, it has gained incredible traction from the entire 3D printing community worldwide. However, it hasn't been without its ups and downs. We were in the middle of a pandemic, and there were many unknown factors.

Fortunately, we managed to navigate through those difficult times and continued introducing new machines and features.

Happy easter everyone!

More development update on shredder.

Right now I am playing with different speed and direction change algorithms to see if it has any impact on overall shredding speed, blade cutting and motor life. It seems it is dialed in perfectly. Cutting through like butter of a 1mm thick PETG. It dynamically adjusts the motor speed and direction based on sensor readings and decides to increase or decrease the speed.

I also hunted down several UI related bugs and getting this thing slowly ready for pre-ordering status. The most pressing issue to tackle is solving the OTA software update mechanism.

At the same time I am constantly shredding around 150lbs of waste PETG plastic that we accumulated during prototyping stage to rigorously testing the blades and motor itself. So far, zero issues!.

Lets explore of some of the important features of our new shredder machine.

The good thing I like it about is having a touch screen! As far as I know it is the only desktop sized plastic shredder machine with touch screen and advanced firmware that you can do customize the shredding process according to needs.

Moreover it is the only single shaft plastic shredder in the market that utilizes the double sided cutting blades which actually increases the shelf life of the blades 2 times by cutting the material on both direction!

It will also have a wifi connection to our servers to check if there is any new software updates! We do plan new features in upcoming months like creating customized shredding profiles.
