Clinical trials collect biospecimens, but rarely enough for all the translational work running alongside them. When protocols can't be amended quickly, one approach is running a parallel study—same patient population, additional samples, no protocol changes required.

Why do some biospecimen studies succeed while others fail? It often comes down to operational excellence and attention to detail. Check out our new blog post exploring the critical factors that drive successful biospecimen collection—from strategic planning to quality assurance.

Your brilliant assay won't work if the pre-analytics are wrong.

Liquid biopsy developers can spend years perfecting assays under controlled conditions. Then they deploy clinically and discover performance doesn't match what they found in their lab experiments. The culprit: pre-analytical variables that matter more than they realized.

Critical factors the MT Group helps evaluate in bridging studies for its customer-partners:
* Collection timing: Blood draw to processing timelines (immediate vs. 24+ hours)
* Shipping conditions: Room temperature vs. refrigerated vs. frozen
* Processing variables: Centrifuge speeds, spin times, and equipment types
* Storage protocols: Temperature fluctuations during transit and storage
* Tube selection: Anticoagulants that can affect biomarker stability

The reality: Clinical deployment sites - whether hospitals, central labs, or oncologist offices - vary in their workflows and capabilities. Assays need to be robust to tolerate these variable conditions.

At MT Group, we've conducted A vs. B collections to investigate all of these critical factors. We design bridging studies that compare pre-analytical conditions side-by-side to reveal which variables actually impact assay performance.

Question for the community: Which pre-analytical variable has surprised you most in clinical deployment?
