SOCIAL MEDIA in LEARNING and EDUCATION Project (SMILE)
Research on ADOLESCENT USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA
University of Southern California
[email protected]
If you are a parent of an adolescent who is between 14 – 16 years old, we would like to invite you to participate in a survey research project. This study is being conducted by a research team at the University of Southern California.
We will be looking at adolescents' use of social media platforms (Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok). We are particularly interested in ways that adolescents might use social media to help cope with some of the stress associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. We will ask participants to complete an online survey (that will take about an hour to complete) four times over a two-year period.
There will be no other form of data collected (we will not be directly observing young people’s online interactions – the project involves questionnaires only). Parents will also be asked to complete a very brief questionnaire.
We will compensate participates with small gift certificates ($40 in Amazon gift certificates over the course of the project for adolescents; $20 in Amazon gift certificates for parents).
If you and your child are interested in participating, please contact the SMILE team at:
