A dream crew is what will bring humanity to Mars! Meet our summer interns who have been working on a *secret* project to make humanity interplanetary!

Adam Ctverak Adam is our Systems Engineering Integrations Intern. He is an aerospace engineering student at Florida Tech with a management minor. Through his prior work with various aerospace manufacturers, he gained experience in the design process and project management.

Waheedah Akberzie is our Systems Engineering Intern. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Astronautical Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). Her interest in space applications grew from her experiences in both L’SPACE’s Mission Concept Academy (MCA) and their NASA Proposal Writing and Evaluation Experience (NPWEE) Program. Since then, Waheedah has learned about the experiences and hardships astronauts encounter in space. She believes that if space is going to be accessible, it is crucial for our space habitats to be comfortable.

Brenda Williamson is our Operations & Design Integrations Intern. She is an undergraduate aerospace engineering student at UC San Diego. Her passion in the aerospace industry is to make it possible for the average person to experience and explore outer space. She strives to promote the exploration and development of space and improve the quality of Earth and space travel as a whole while supporting sustainability and renewable energy sources.

Kyle Meyers is our Human Factors Intern. He is a passionate designer and consultant looking to inspire the next generation and engender humanity's sustainable expansion into our solar system.
Studying at Arizona State University within the Interplanetary Initiative, he focuses on the often overlooked human side of space exploration. He is interested in all the thought that goes into the things we never think about.

Stay tuned to hear more!

Today is the last day of May, Mental Health Awareness month.

Mental Health Awareness Month provides a timely reminder that mental health is essential and that those living with mental health issues are deserving of care, understanding, compassion, and pathways to hope, healing, recovery, and fulfillment.

The mental well-being of astronauts is the reason we exist and work hard on bringing accessible, sensory-rich environments to the present and future space explorers!

Space travel can deprive basic human desires, potentially causing the failure of prolonged space missions.

How design can be a defining tool for the future in space, and how does designing for space accessibility improve accessibility on Earth?

Today at Space Tourism Conference, Anastasia Prosina will speak about the case study of creating tactile navigation for the initiative and the social and business opportunities of inclusive design.Ā

Reposted• Anastasia Prosina (.prosina), space architect, is the founder & CEO of : a company dedicated to the creation of adaptable, lightweight components for living environments in outer space that help to preserve the wellbeing of astronauts.⁣
⁣
In addition to designing a Mars analog habitat, Stellar Amenities has developed a chair suited for Mars. Furniture on Mars must be compact, light, and cost-effective. Standard office furniture takes up too much room and costs over half a million dollars in shipping.⁣
⁣
Anastasia and her team looked at how a basic piece of furniture could be built to function most effectively and also considered the ways in which it might help to preserve the muscular health of astronauts.⁣
⁣
The resulting creation was a chair that weighs 75% less than those used in earthen offices, and it is shaped to engage the leg and back muscles of its users. (This is highly important in outer space, where low levels of gravity can lead to a rapid loss of muscle mass!)⁣
⁣
We can’t wait for Anastasia to join MODA’s upcoming Teen Jam workshop on March 26th, and we’re so excited to learn more about the fascinating field of space architecture! Anastasia will share the details of her career and discuss some of her goals for the future. After her presentation, we’ll enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at how space habitats are designed in an immersive workshop. Register today at the link in our bio! ⁣

Design for the first flight of .

After researching deeply on accessibility tools, we found that the navigational aids currently available were inadequate for navigating in 0G, given the difficulties of reading braille in unknown orientations. There was certainly room for improvement, so we designed tactile textiles that could offer the stability and environmental awareness to navigate in 0G by touching in any direction.
ā€
Our research focused on exploring a diverse set of textiles that exhibited a wide variety of tactile properties, such as unidirectionality, relief height, directional contrast, feature size, shape, spacing, frequency, and proportion. Surprisingly enough, embroidery pieces were found more desirable than other pieces.

We continue exploring design to make accessible space and cannot wait to share more details on our findings.

Every day is a day to elevate women, but this March, Women’s History month, is the perfect opportunity to spotlight and celebrate the women who dare mighty things.

The women in the picture are disruptors of space industry, who are crafting their own path and legacy.

šŸ”¹Dr. Sean Proctor, the first back woman to pilot a spacecraft on a historical SpaceX mission of all-private citizens
šŸ”¹Janeya Griffin, the space revolutionist of equity in space
šŸ”¹Lindy Elkins-Tanton, the VP of Arizona State University's Interplanetary Initiative, Principal Investigator, Psyche Mission NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration
šŸ”¹Anastasia Prosina, the Founder & CEO of Stellar Amenities

Celebrate today and this month by giving a special woman in your life a shout-out, supporting women-owned businesses, and reflecting on how far gender equality has come and how we can all do our part to continue the progress. Then keep that support going year-roundšŸš€
