Recyclebelt

Recyclebelt Recyclebelt is an additional recycling option on the exterior of waste bins. This is why you often see less-fortunate people digging in trash cans.

A lot of times when you're out walking around in a big city, a place for your recyclable—soda can, water bottle, etc— is hard to find. Thousands of these items end up in trash cans in cities like Minneapolis, Los Angeles and New York everyday. Recyclebelt is a recycling option on the exterior of waste bins. The product is a low-cost "belt" with pockets that wraps around a trash can for people to p

recycle their cans and bottles. The idea comes from many European cities where instead of throwing bottles in the trash itself, they stack them on the ground around the can. This way pickers don't have to dig through trash and expose themselves to unwanted bacteria.

"We live in an era of unprecedented urban migration. Ms. Smith mentioned the billion people living in informal settlements, or slums. That number is projected to double by 2030, triple by 2050, according to the United Nations Human Settlements Program. By then one of three people on the planet will supposedly be living in favelas in Brazil, barrios in Ecuador, shack settlements in South Africa, bidonvilles in Tunisia or chapros in Nepal — the names are nearly as endless as the number of these sprawling, unplanned, impoverished places." - Yet Another Reason Recyclebelts Are A Part of the Future !

“Design With the Other 90 Percent: Cities,” a show organized by the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, shows how the problems of millions of the world’s poorest people are being addressed.
