X-class solar flare in progress! A new region just over the limb has produced 2 small M flares starting yesterday toward the end of the day. An X flare is in progress. It is currently at X1.7 and that appears to be the maximum. Here is an image of the event in 4 SDO wavelengths with a trace of the GOES X-rays. credit: NASA/SDO and NOAA/GOES
