Katherine Esther Jackson (born May 4, 1930) is the revered matriarch of the Jackson musical dynasty, whose quiet strength and deep devotion nurtured some of the most influential pop stars in history. Born in Clayton, Alabama, she overcame a childhood bout of polio—which left her with a lifelong limp—before moving to East Chicago, Indiana, where she eventually met and married Joe Jackson in 1949. Raising their ten children in a modest, two-bedroom home in Gary, Indiana, Katherine served as the emotional bedrock of the family, hand-sewing wardrobe costumes for The Jackson 5 and fostering a foundational environment of discipline and faith. Despite the turbulent realities of global fame, intense public scrutiny, and the devastating loss of her sons Michael and Tito, she remained a steadfast anchor behind the scenes, even assuming legal custody of Michael's three children following his passing in 2009. Now 96 years old, she continues to live a private life in California, her monumental legacy recently celebrated by a new generation through her poignant depiction in the 2024–2026 production of the Michael biopic.v
