More often than not, inlays have some variance in their true dimension versus what they're advertised to be. Additionally, router bits are not exactly true-to-size (either due to variations in manufacturing tolerances, sharpening, or wear from usage). Add collet wear and any additional variance from the motor itself… and well… you can’t trust anything!

Micro Fence offers a simple solution to all of this, removing any doubt, guesswork, and wasted time. Add a few thousandths for glue clearance, and you’ll hit the perfect dimension every time.

We’ve got a box in the corner of our assembly room for our scratched or dented parts. These are mostly Edge Guide bodies, various mounting bars, and the odd Circle Jig part. They are cosmetically flawed, but functionally no different than our brand-new parts.

Think of it like buying an Edge Guide off eBay, but with the benefit of knowing you’re getting everything that comes with a brand-new unit, and freshly assembled and calibrated straight from the manufacturer.

- Edge Guide standard price: $279
- Scratch and Dent: $179
- With unblemished mounting bar*: $199

Limited supply. First come, first serve.

*There is no guarantee that we’ll have your desired mounting bar that is scratched or dented. There’s a chance we’ll need to assemble your unit with a new unblemished mounting bar. Let us know what you need over the phone, and we’ll see what we can do to fit your needs.

We set aside some time throughout 2021 to film and document the manufacturing process that goes into making some of our products. We’ve begun editing all the footage together into a video that will likely be over 20 minutes long when it’s all said and done. For now, we’d like to give you a much shorter (2 minute) sneak-peek of what you can look forward to.

By the way, the music is courtesy of Rich and his friends (the Woodshop Band) recorded a couple of years ago in Los Angeles.

For the last 40+ years, Rich’s shop in Los Angeles has been faced with a wide range of commissions and challenges. In the early eighties, a client came in with a rendering of a folding (and rocking) deck chair designed in the late 1800’s. She was hoping to modernize the design and make a prototype (1 & 2).

The adjustable sawhorse (3 & 4) has served as an outfeed support in the shop and is still used frequently today. It can adjust to the height of any of our machines including the table saw, jointer, planer, bandsaw and mortiser. A trusty helper that makes two-man jobs possible when working alone.

See more of Rich’s work at richardwedler.com

1) A hard maple, folding rocking chair (Yes, it rocks! We’ll post a video soon!)

2) Linkages feature stainless aircraft rivets as hinge points

3) A lathe-turned circular handle locks height-adjustment in position

4) Designed to align with any machine in the shop

Our newly redesigned Standard Ellipse Jig features a central axes plate made of cast aluminum tooling plate that will undoubtedly introduce a new level of flatness to the kit. Not only will it improve the smoothness of the jig's travel, but it will also ensure that over time, the flatness and smooth performance will remain unchanged. The new design allows for vacuum hold-down regardless of the size of the ellipse being cut. Options include the Micro Fence Vacuum Center Assembly or the user's own vacuum pump.

Subscribers to our newsletter were recently sent the coupon code SUMMER10 for 10% off Micro Fence products, and we would like to extend the offer to those of you who may have not yet subscribed. The newsletter also includes plenty of details about our new Ellipse Jig, as well as Rich's recent cabinet project. You can view it online here: https://mailchi.mp/microfence/summer-newsletter-2020

Thought I’d share a few recent pictures from a cabinet I built for a friend, utilizing the Micro Fence Plunge Base and Edge Guide for some of the detailed work. The cabinet features sliding panels with a beautiful fifty-year-old redwood burl that I found in the 80s, and has been stored in the shop patiently waiting to be used all these years. The sliding doors and end panels feature a Santa Fe rail detail I felt suited the cabinet’s personality, while presenting an entertaining challenge in the building process.

I’ll be going into much greater depth about the whole process, with many additional pictures and details in our upcoming spring newsletter. If you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe at microfence.com

The commission was to build walnut-framed display cases into two french doors that provided access to a storage space behind a living room wall. The cases were half cylinders lined in African anigre veneer and fitted with top-lighted glass shelving.

Construction began with building both male and female forms for the inside and outside diameters of the cylinder (using the Micro Fence Ellipse Jig - for details see richardwedler.com). The curvature of the forms was duplicated by six plys of 1/8" bending poplar glued and clamped to the male form.

Once set, the anigre veneer was applied to the interior surface using the same form in conjunction with the female form. The resulting half cylinder was fitted into the french door frame and clear-finished. Dimmable low-voltage lighting provided ambience control for the living room.
