Dakota Dockery grew up with involved parents in the community. A grandfather who was law enforcement in several local agencies as well as a grandmother who worked full time as a bus driver with BCPS. This helped him find direction and a desire to help those who couldn’t help themselves and a drive to serve his country in a way that no one in his family had done before. When he turned 17, a junior at North Bullitt High School, and a 3-year JROTC Student, Dakota knew he wanted to do more and took the first step in joining The United States Army.
Completing Basic Combat Training during the summer prior to his Senior year, and Advanced Individual Training the summer following his Senior Year of High School, Dakota was sworn in as a Military Police Officer with his first unit, the 223rd Military Police Company.
During his time with this 223rd MP, based locally at the time out of Louisville, KY, Dakota was apart of several operations to assist local law enforcement with events such as Thunder Over Louisville, Derby and Oaks. During his time with this unit, he also assisted the Bluegrass Challenge Academy on Fort Knox as a cadre and instructor for troubled youth, as well as a recruiter’s assistant local in Louisville, KY.
After only a short few years with the 223rd MPCO, developing his skills as a soldier, team member, and LEO, A sister unit, the 1103rd Military Police Detachment , was spun up for deployment in 2013 to Afghanistan. Dakota volunteered to leave his current unit of brothers and sisters and deploy with this small group of Law Enforcement professionals in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Dakota attended training to better assist the units’ needs prior to their mobilization and was attached to the Military Police Investigator section of this Law-and-Order Detachment.
Upon arriving in Afghanistan, Dakota and 5 others from the 1103rd MP Det were sent to the small FOB of Kunduz, where this small group was able to maintain law and order operations until the small base was eventually closed and the group was able to return to the main unit in Northern Afghanistan near the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. For 9 months, the 1103rd Military Police Det was successful in all operations conducted during their deployment, as well as served as liaisons with other countries stationed on the NATO base of Camp Marmel, working closely with the The Feldjäger or German Military Police.
Dakota Returned home to the US in 2014 and after a short time was promoted to E-5 (Sergeant) and became a team leader back with the 223rd Military Police Co.
