Tell Lexington Leaders: Support Zoning Changes to Grow Solar + Agriculture Together!
The Lexington Fayette Urban County Council is currently reviewing zoning amendments that would allow solar projects in select agricultural areas (only about 2% of county land) when specific standards are met. This will enable innovative “agrivoltaics” projects, where sheep can graze and crops can grow right alongside solar panels. Beware of salespeople offering “free inspections” of your solar PV systems. A company is calling and texting solar customers in Kentucky, often claiming to be with manufacturers Solar Edge or Enphase, suggesting that people’s systems are under-performing. They have made blatantly false claims and are trying to get their foot in the door to make sales for batteries or maintenance services. Beware of companies making cold calls, texts, or knocking on your door, making claims about the performance of your personal solar equipment. Ask them how they got your personal contact information and private data about your PV system. If you have questions about the performance of your PV system, contact your original installation contractor. Before signing a contract, get multiple estimates and talk about it with someone you trust.
