When we first tried digital weight, our reaction was “Why isn’t this everywhere??”

Set aside the sports science of isokinetics, eccentric overload, velocity based training, etc. It just feels great, and it’s super approachable to use. It reminded us of our decade of experience making VBT products. It was the PERFECT marriage of exercise science and real (not gimmicky) training.

Our theory was simple. Digital weight tech is hard, you have to be a tech company to build it. But tech company business models incentivise overbuilt all-in-one products to drive content subscription revenue. Gyms have hundreds of pieces of equipment, that approach simply will never get digital weight where the average person trains.

If we focused just on digital weight, and let equipment companies focus on making great equipment, we could get it in every gym in the world.

How much will EStack cost?

I know you want me to tell you a number, but I can’t right now. It would be irresponsible. But I can do something a little odd, since I’m the CEO, Head of Hardware Engineering, and Chief Instagram Description Writer. I can tell you exactly how much each of the latest batch of EStack prototypes cost.

$2475.08

It consists of 451 parts, 9 of them ordered from outside of the US. Most of the expensive custom parts were made in batches of between 3 and 8 parts (doing us no favors on volume pricing).

This latest version is what’s called a DVT prototype, it’s the final step before we design the unit that goes to manufacturing. That means it’s overbuilt and unoptimized, utilizing essentially zero ‘tooled’ parts, like injection molding or sheet metal stamping, where serious cost is saved.

And it was still under $2,500 each.

Do I have an idea of what it will cost in our manufacturing prototype? Sure, I have a pretty good idea. If I were to write down a number, would it be wrong? Absolutely guaranteed to be inaccurate.

So rather than rush to give a price, I’m hoping you will be patient with us so we can do things the right way
