Behind every purpose-driven project is a team member who makes it happen.

Today, we’re proud to recognize Jonathon Kardeen on his AACON work anniversary.

🚧 Jonathon joined AACON in January 2017 and has built his career through consistency, accountability, and a willingness to take on responsibility. Starting out in the field, he worked his way into the superintendent role and continues to support projects across the country with calm leadership and disciplined ex*****on.

🏗️ Over the years, Jonathon has expanded his role by stepping into SSHO and QA/QC responsibilities. His ability to lead in the field while maintaining the safety and quality standards required on federal projects reflects the trust our teams and clients place in him.

Outside of work, Jonathon enjoys time outdoors and being near the water — a place he says helps him reset and stay grounded. “Home is where you make it. I love being near the water and see myself there long term.”

Jonathon’s path is a reminder that growth comes from showing up, doing the work the right way, and holding yourself to a higher standard even when no one is watching. His dedication reflects AACON’s core values of Excellence, Loyalty, and Integrity, and we’re grateful for the impact he continues to make on our projects and teams.

Thank you, Jonathon, for representing AACON well and for your continued commitment to the work. 👏 🏆

Twenty years ago, AACON started with a vision, a lot of hard work, and the belief that how you build matters just as much as what you build.

Troy Ansert, our founder and CEO, built AACON with a long-term mindset, strong relationships, and a hands-on approach that still guides how we work today.

Michael Lathon, President and a Service-Disabled U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, brings discipline, accountability, and a mission-first mindset that carries through every project and every team.

Together, their leadership has helped grow AACON while keeping people, integrity, and commitment at the center of everything we do.

As we reflect on 20 years in business, we are grateful for the leadership, team, partners, and community that have supported AACON along the way.

December 13th commemorates the National Guard Birthday. On December 13th, 1636, the Massachusetts General Court established an official militia for the first time in the American Colonies.

As the oldest military force in the United States, the National Guard has spent nearly four centuries preparing citizen-soldiers to protect their communities, respond in times of crisis, and defend our nation when called upon.

At AACON, we’re proud to support mission-driven organizations whose work centers on preparedness, safety, and service. We honor the men and women of the National Guard—past and present—who stand ready to serve wherever and whenever they’re needed.

Honoring the people who work every day to keep our communities and our country moving.

National Miners Day reminds us how important training and preparedness are for those working in high-risk environments. AACON was proud to support this mission by building the new Fire Training Tower and Burn Tunnel at the MSHA Academy in Beaver, West Virginia. The facility gives miners and instructors a safe place to practice real emergency scenarios and strengthen their skills.

We’re grateful for our team members who helped deliver this project and for the work MSHA does to protect miners across the country.

AACON was awarded its sixth Task Order affiliated with the United States Army Corps of Engineers Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC). The Task Order entitled Portland Wharf Bank Stabilization Project was located in Jefferson County Kentucky with construction supervised by the United States Army Corps of Engineer, along with assistance from Louisville Metro Parks Service and Metropolitan Sewer District.
Portland Wharf Park preserves the remains of the original town of Portland once a thriving nineteenth century river town. Due to the park being a historic site, known to contain archaeological artifacts, land disturbing activities were not permitted. A stabilized access path was established for hauling operations and was comprised of filter fabric lying on top of the existing ground capped with six-inches of coarse aggregate. The only ground disturbing activities that were allowed was the installation of erosion control silt fencing which required a four-inch by six-inch trench for installation. During this operation, an Archaeologist from the USACE was on site performing visual observations in case historical artifacts were encountered. Clearing of the existing vegetation along the riverbank was the next activity to be performed. All trees had to be cut flush with existing grade due to the historical nature of the park. Trees were felled by hand and removed from the riverbank with excavators. The felled timber was stockpiled on the top of the riverbank and chipped in to mulch for disposal. Louisville Metro Parks Service requested the mulch and larger felled trees be placed along the existing tree line on the west side of the park for utilization by the Parks Service at a later date. AACON was able to partner with our Client and Subcontractor to perform this activity at no additional cost to the government.
Upon removal of the timber that could be felled from the top of the riverbank, hauling of the bedding stone (357 aggregate) from the quarry was initiated. Due to the fact that no ground disturbing activities could be performed, the bedding stone was initially placed approximately half way down the side of the riverbank in order to establish a pathway for gaining access to the remaining timber required to be harvested.

Once clearing operations were completed, placement of the bedding stone to the required profiles commenced. The bedding stone has specific elevations, with nothing and wasting coordinates for baseline establishment, which is critical for establishing proper slopes along the riverbank and remaining within the estimated quantity of aggregate provided by the government. Currently, over seventeen thousand tons of 357 aggregate has been delivered and placed on the Portland Wharf Stabilization project (ref figures 11, 12, 13, and 14 on next page). Final shaping of the bedding stone to the required profiles was required prior to placing rip rap aggregate.
After final shaping of the bedding stone, an eighteen-inch layer of rip rap aggregate was installed to provide final stabilization efforts. Restoration of the top of the riverbank included a five-foot strip planting area to act as a buffer between the wharf baseline and the existing park. The Project completed on November 02, 2017. This particular project was a challenge due to the water level fluctuation of the Ohio River. Consistent scheduling adjustments had to be made in order to minimize any impact of the river level and to keep the project moving forward. AACON performed another successful project partnering with the USACE.

AACON has successfully executed another project for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. With the project being a “Design Build” delivery method, the FEMA NINE Facilities Project was created to facilitate nine (9) facilities, seven (7) with Sealing of Windows, Doors, Ceilings and Shut Down/Isolation of HVAC with Integrated Controls and signaling of doors and two (2) facilities receiving an “Over Pressure Filtration System” within the Richmond, KY community with a “Safe Haven” room or structure for sustaining life during a “Hazardous Emergency Alert”. AACON was responsible for; Designing, Procuring, Constructing, Installing and Testing of said structures or facilities receiving the “Safe Haven” Scope of Work. In doing so, AACON performed the action task(s) of installing a “Safe Haven” Neoprene Door Gasketing material around each door (Jambs & Head of Door Frames) as well as placing a “Haven” threshold in completing the “Safe Haven” barrier around each door positioned within the “Protected Barrier” as designated by the Plans & Specifications.

In addition to sealing each door, window and penetrations in the ceilings, AACON was required per Plans and Specifications to Shut Down all HVAC equipment (RTU’s, AHU’s, Exhaust Fans, etc.) and install Isolation Dampers in duct work that feed the “Protected Area”. All perimeter doors of the “Protected Area” were signaled to show that they were secured properly with the use of Magnetic Door Sensors. AACON installed a Master Control Panel in each of the facilities that allowed the tenants the ability to have normally controlled air in their regular day to day operations and from the push of the “Emergency System Start” button, the systematic shut down of all HVAC equipment, the closing of Isolation Dampers, and the signaling of Doors open/closed is initiated.

Two (2) of the Nine facilities received an enhanced “Safe Haven” system that “Over Pressurized” the facilities. In performance, the system over pressurized the “Protected Area” by forcing conditioned air into newly installed double wall insulated spiral duct that connected to the existing HVAC duct system with the use of multiple Hunter Protective Systems Filtration Fan Units. Emergency Power Generators were also installed to assure the safety of those in the “Protected Area” is maintained even during a power outage. The “Over Pressurized System” is integrated with a Master Control Panel that allows the tenant the ability to have normally controlled air in their regular day to day operations and from the push of the “Emergency System Start” button, the systematic shut down of all HVAC equipment, the closing of Isolation Dampers, the initiation of pressurized controlled air into the space and the signaling of Doors open/closed.

In accomplishing the success of an “Over Pressurized System” within the designated facilities, a specific design criteria was required; 1.) Structurally designing and installing a new “Cold Rolled Steel” metal framed ceiling using 12-gauge framing member at an average length of 25’-0” attaching to the existing wall framing using a metal ledger material of equal gauge and dimension, 2.) Lowering of all existing fire sprinkler heads, 3.) Lowering of all existing HVAC system service branch lines to new ceiling elevations, 4.) Removing and reinstalling existing light fixtures. 5.) Integration of existing electrical circuitry into the Emergency Power System.

Though the project was met with many challenges throughout the ex*****on of work, it was the leadership and experienced personnel that prevailed on meeting and exceeding the expectation of the USACE.
