This week we got out of the shop to install a new gate that we fabricated for a camp in Big Moose. We designed the top hinges with holes that lined up so the gates could be held open or closed with a pin. We also added a removable pin in the center of the gates that can be locked or used with a pin through each end. We also made it so the hinges can be greased with grease fittings on the top and bottom of the hinge pin with grease holes that line up in the middle of the hinges. Adirondack Powder Coating did an awesome job with the satin dark green finish to help the gate blend into the surrounding trees.

Over the weekend we got to work repairing this broken part for an Oxbo hay merger. We machined a piece of mechanical tubing down to fit inside of the broken sections. This allowed us to easily line up the broken sections for welding and it also helps to reinforce the weld joint. Once the two broken pieces were beveled and lined up we welded everything together and then ground down the weld so it wouldn’t interfere with anything. We also drilled 4 holes in each of the broken sections and plug welded them to the inner mechanical tubing. We were able to get this repair turned around quickly so the customer could get their merger back up and going.

Last week we were contacted by an out of state contractor working locally that is putting lines in the ground on the natural gas pipeline right of way. They use this chute to feed the lines into the trench. Unfortunately they bent one chute that they were using which left them with only their spare chute. So the asked if we could build them a new chute. We weren’t able to have the spare chute while building the new one because the contractor needed it to continue working, and the bend one was built differently than they wanted the new one to be made so it wasn’t much to go by. So we had to take as many pictures and measurements as possible of the spare chute to recreate the new one. Given all that we believe this new chute turned out amazing and we hope it works well for the contractor when they need to put it into service. The “inside” panel of the chute needed to be removable to allow access in case the line gets caught or bound up inside. Attached to that panel is a pipe that feeds out warning tape to prevent the lines below from being hit if any future excavation is done in that area. We were able to salvage that pipe off of the bent chute.

This winter / spring we were hired to fabricate and install 10 sets of galvanized stair railings for a street rehab project in the City of Watertown. After a few set backs mostly due to weather and a change to one of the sets of stairs we were finally able to finish this project up. We were happy to contribute to this street reconstruction project!

This week we finished up some work on this equipment trailer. The original fenders were starting to rust out so we replaced them with new ones using heavy gauge metal so they will hold up better. The new fenders are also removable like the original fenders. We also fabricated a custom removable storage box for the front the trailer. It’s deep enough to allow the customer to store chain binders and chains.

This winter we were hired to design and build these two ice protection canopies for a local natural gas compressor station. They were having issues with ice coming off of one of their buildings that would land dangerously close to some sensitive equipment located outside of the building. These canopies have a heavy duty expanded metal for the roof instead of steel plate to prevent any potential leaked gas from pooling under the roof and causing an explosion hazard.
