You can put two athletes through the exact same program and get completely different results.

One produces force efficiently.
One wastes it.
One handles load well.
One breaks down.

Why?

That question is the foundation of biomechanics.

From Borelli’s early mechanical analysis of human movement to modern sports science, coaches have been chasing the same objective: understand what’s actually happening inside movement so better decisions can be made.

Longitudinal movement data changes everything. From performance development to return-to-play decisions.

Instead of relying on isolated snapshots, coaches and practitioners can finally see how athletes move across weeks, months, and rehab timelines.

Are they returning to baseline?
Are compensations still present?
Is force production symmetrical again?
Is movement quality improving or just performance output?

That level of visibility changes the conversation.

Athletes don’t just get cleared.
They get guided back with confidence.

A jump test shows performance.

It doesn’t show where risk lives.

Poor landing mechanics can increase injury risk.

Demotu helps you see the breakdowns.
The asymmetries.
What needs work.

So you know exactly where to focus next.

Most people use the CMJ to measure jump height.

But the jump is only part of the assessment.

The landing is where a lot of the useful information lives.

That’s where you start to see:
• Knee valgus
• Load asymmetries
• Hip instability
• Poor braking mechanics
• Compensation patterns

Two athletes can produce the same jump height and still move very differently.

One lands with control and distributes force efficiently. The other shifts load, collapses at the knee, or struggles to absorb force.

Same performance output.
Different movement strategy.
Different injury risk profile.

That’s why the CMJ matters.

It’s not just measuring how much force an athlete can produce. It shows how they manage it.

Most movement changes probably don’t happen overnight.

They tend to develop gradually.

An ankle may lose mobility. Hip rotation can begin to change. Compensation patterns may start appearing more frequently. Force transfer may become a little less efficient over time.

Athletes can often continue performing at a high level while these changes are developing. Which is part of why they can be easy to miss. Until performance starts to dip. Symptoms begin to show up. Or movement quality becomes harder to maintain consistently. That’s one reason tracking movement over time is invaluable.

A single assessment provides a snapshot. Consistent reassessment helps reveal trends. And those trends help guide better coaching decisions.

You begin to see how an athlete may be adapting to training, fatigue, competition, recovery, and workload over time. Subtle changes become easier to identify earlier. Interventions become more targeted. Progress becomes easier to measure objectively.

The goal isn’t only to assess movement.

It’s to better understand how movement changes and adapts over time.

Coach Spotlight: James Clark of United Pitching Academy

After 19 years coaching fastpitch pitchers, James knows the issue isn’t spotting a mechanical breakdown. It’s understanding why it’s happening.

By combining movement analysis with skill-specific coaching, James helps athletes address the underlying limitations that can impact velocity, consistency, and long-term mechanical changes.

The result? Many pitchers at United Pitching Academy have gained 2–3 mph over 10–12 weeks while improving consistency on the mound.

Most coaching workflows are fragmented.

Assessment notes here.
Training programs there.
Performance tracking somewhere else.

With Demotu, it’s different.

Most exercise libraries are just lists.

Demotu’s 6,000+ exercise library is built for how you actually coach:

See the issue → make the call → fix it → reassess.

Every movement is organized around how the body moves—so when something shows up in an assessment, you’re not digging… you already know where to go.

Limited ankle mobility? You’ve got a clear path.
Hip stability breaking down? You know what to address.
Asymmetries in a squat? You’re correcting with intent.

And when it runs through Borelli AI, it connects everything—
movement data → priorities → program.

→ Exercises organized by movement and goal
→ Progressions & regressions that actually make sense
→ Built to plug into workouts, blocks, and full plans
→ Fully editable and customizable

This isn’t about more exercises.

It’s about making better calls, faster.

Create an account, choose your plan, and start programming with precision.

If you want to understand how an athlete moves, start with the overhead squat.

In a single rep, you’re evaluating:

→ Ankle dorsiflexion and depth control
→ Hip stability and femoral control
→ Pelvic positioning through range
→ Thoracic extension and trunk angle
→ Shoulder flexion and overhead stability

It’s a closed-chain pattern that exposes how well an athlete organizes force from the ground up.

Common breakdowns provide direction:

• Forward torso lean → often associated with limited ankle range or lumbopelvic control strategy
• Knee valgus → may reflect deficits in coordination, frontal plane stability, or foot mechanics
• Heels rising → commonly linked to restricted dorsiflexion or load distribution
• Arms drifting forward → often tied to thoracic or shoulder limitations

These aren’t just deviations—
they’re constraints that influence performance and increase injury risk as intensity rises.

The value isn’t in the movement itself.
It’s in what it reveals—and what you do next.
