I’ve been following Nox Metals in Detroit, Michigan for the past few months, and it’s been exciting to watch their growth. Their mission to help reindustrialize America, combined with the passion of their team, is something you don’t come across every day.

They’re building more than a business. They’re helping drive a resurgence in American manufacturing. I have a feeling this is one of those companies we’ll look back on years from now as part of a much larger story.

Wishing the entire Nox Metals team continued success. I’m looking forward to seeing what they accomplish next.

First operation complete on a 12-piece Delrin order.

Delrin machines beautifully, and these parts are coming out great.

Need parts machined? Have an idea that needs to be modeled? RFQs welcome.

It’s been pretty busy over at Swartz Machine! Between working on prototype products on behalf of Swartz Machine, picking up the shop, and completing current orders. Along with working with vendors to find solutions to my problems!

Around October, I reached out to V***r Honing Technologies (VHT) to get an OEM finish back on these parts. I’d like to offer the service as a premium for customers.

After about 2-3 months of discussions with VHT on my needs and wants. They have a solution that will work for what I want.

What is V***r Honing? It’s a process similar to Sandblasting, with the inclusion of water and additives to avoid rust and corrosion!

How is V***r Honing beneficial over sandblasting?

• Softer on non-ferrous materials
• Cleans the parts
• Keeps the parts cool to prevent warping
• Can be used on plastics and rubbers (Intake boots and hoses)
• It produces much less airborne dust
• Not prone to clumping due to moisture in airlines
• With the right medias it is certain to not be health hazardous (Potentially no need for a respirator!)

It was initially discussion to purchase by March, things have changed and it has to be put on the back burner sadly. In the meantime, I’m trying to justify the absolute need for it!

If you have any plans for parts or assemblies needing to be v***r honed with extreme care! Let me know! Im willing to invest into providing the service to you!

It can do well for restorations!

Perfect for:

• Transmission housings
• Carburetors
• Intake manifolds
• Engine covers
• Motorcycle parts
• Aluminum castings

If you’re not certain if it can be V***r Honed. Please send me a message!

Last week I had a batch of 6L80 bellhousings to complete for a customer. I did my normal prep, put it on my fixture plate, and started machining it.

At first it seemed normal, after my 2nd feature to machine I recognized something unusual. There was a big .006” dip on this critical feature face.

In transmissions it is not unusual for things to warp but this is a big warpage on these parts. I decided I needed to investigate the problem

Unbolting the part from the fixture I recognized it felt like a spring. I set it on the fixture plate with no bolts, and noticed the part is shaped like a potato chip. There is a gap between the part and my fixture plate resulting in around .020” of warpage.

What people don’t realize, aluminum moves, it pushes and pulls around easily. If the customer assembles the transmission it will probably bench test perfect. Now when he bolts it to the engine, it will pull on the critical features and potentially cause a failure point at the main pump.

I notified the customer of this part with my concerns. He agreed to test the part and notify me with feedback so I can gain knowledge on what will cause potential failure points on parts that may go into your vehicle!

Here at Swartz Machine, I look to give a better remanufactured part than any of the competitors!

A huge shout out to my employer at KMD for sending me along with Addy Machinery to go to the Discover 2025 event in Florence, Kentucky to check out everything about Mazak manufacturing and automation solutions!

Being in this industry as an employee at KMD and as a shop owner, I was never really sold on Mazaks. After this tour they are really slick!

A few machine lineups are manufactured in Kentucky. What is incredible was seeing Mazaks made by Mazaks!

📍They laser cut the sheet metal, bend, weld and powdercoat all the panels and components
📍Spindles are made and repaired in house
📍Castings are milled to finish in house
📍Linear rail datum’s are hand scraped to finish for achieving proper tolerances
📍So much more to list it amazed me!

If anyone is interested in a new Mazak seriously consider the SmoothAI control. With its direct import modeling, it makes it a breeze to program a part within a few minutes! It can be milling, turning, or mill/turn and it’ll get it done. (Being AI they highly advise to look over everything).

After SmoothAI programs the part, you can then generate a quote after inputting a few variables. Variables costs being material, set-up, tooling, and shop rate and it will save it.

If the program is later modified and fine tuned after an initial run, the quote will be updated along with spitting out a report on how it ran, when the machine sat idle and plenty of other factors to increase efficiency!

All in all, what a fantastic trip to Kentucky to see these beasts of machines run! At KMD we are really interested in the Mazak Integrex 250ST with the addition of Agile Robotic Systems.

At Swartz Machine, I need a bigger shop to be able to fit a Mazak!

The “new” equipment keeps getting older here at Swartz Machine! Behold! A 1969 Clausing 5902 Lathe!

We got it moved here to its new home in Lupton from Clio. It was a nice and easy move. I’ve been spending the time cleaning up the chucks, lubricating everything, leveled it and now I’m waiting on a quick change tool post!

Sadly the budget doesn’t allow me to buy a Aloris or Dorian tool post at this time so I picked up one from Precision Matthew’s for the time being!

This little 12”x24” lathe is a great piece of old machinery!

Fabrication on these doors is finally getting somewhere! Definitely a heavy duty door! We are waiting on aluminum trim, glass, and powder coat for the initial batch of regular doors. Next batch will be for the Ballistics!

The heaviest regular door ever 😂
