Trip report
Miles driven 497
Elapsed time 14hours 30min
Big shout out to calvary Baptist church for receiving supplies and acting as a hub to distribute, from my three hours helping unload and load trucks I saw four other communities get much needed supplies and countless locals comming for meals and water
It was amazing to watch and hear these people who had to cut their way out of their homes four days ago volunteer and help others the sounds of helicopters was non stop. Chinooks and black hawks were a regular thing. Truly a unique sound passed the national guard staging area, and FEMA staging areas. There is so much work left to be done and such a large area effected
Supplies delivered. 3000 lbs
2500 lbs water
300lbs sanitizer and Clorox wipes
Two solar battery inverter systems (will get dilivered to the field today with starlinks)
Driving into western NC was life changing. As I can only imagine living through a storm like that. The entire area is truly devastated. Some areas are completely destroyed. Driving down a mountain road and seeing water marks in the trees at 8-10’ high is somthing I will never forget. Started seeing 100’s of trees down at about 70miles out. Landslides at 40miles from Asheville and gaurdrails of bridges had trees and a shed on the shoulder of the highway. And MUD every where. Truly MUD MUD and more MUD
I did not take many pictures as i was “working” but there is no shortage of videos from helicopter of the devastation and realizing I only witnessed a very small area makes me hope every small area is acting the same with such compassion as I saw.
