📅 Hurricane season is here. Preparation starts now.

🌀NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center is forecasting a below-normal 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, with an expected 8-14 named storms, 3-6 hurricanes, and 1-3 major hurricanes. While seasonal outlooks help guide readiness, it only takes one storm to change everything.

🛠️At Tetra Tech Disaster and Emergency Management, we bring 25 years of experience helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Today, we’re also leveraging AI-enabled tools to support recovery efforts with greater speed and accuracy – helping teams assess damage, organize data, and accelerate decision-making when communities need it most.

As NOAA reminds us, now is the time to:
📋 review your preparedness plan
💪 strengthen your readiness
🧰 ensure critical resources are in place before a storm is on the horizon

Debris operations move fast, especially during peak collection periods.
Traditionally, load call validation relied heavily on manual spot checks and back-office review processes that could be time-intensive and difficult to scale consistently. Tetra Tech’s AI-powered load call audit capabilities help review photographic documentation in near real time, flagging potential discrepancies while operations are still underway.

Built using a dataset of more than 550,000 USACE-audited load images, the model is designed around how trained debris monitors evaluate loads in real-world operations.

The goal isn’t replacing field expertise. It’s helping operational teams scale oversight more effectively during demanding recovery missions.

In large-scale disaster operations, small data issues can quickly become major downstream problems. Historically, many quality control processes happened after the fact – sometimes days or weeks after data was collected. AI is helping shift that timeline forward.

Tetra Tech is deploying tools that help identify discrepancies, anomalies, and documentation issues in near real time, allowing teams to resolve issues earlier and maintain stronger operational visibility throughout recovery operations.

Earlier validation supports:
✔ Cleaner documentation
✔ Reduced rework
✔ Stronger data integrity
✔ Faster operational decision-making

The value of AI in disaster recovery is in solving operational bottlenecks that slow recovery efforts down. Manual QA/QC reviews. Delayed validation. High-volume documentation checks. Inconsistent field oversight during surge operations.

The most effective AI tools are the ones that integrate directly into operational workflows and help experienced personnel focus attention where it matters most.

That’s the approach guiding Tetra Tech’s AI initiatives:
✔ practical deployment
✔ operational integration
✔ human oversight
✔ real-time visibility
✔ scalable support during active recovery operations

AI should strengthen disaster operations — not complicate them.
