Micron Manassas kicked off a new partnership with our 2019 Charity of Choice, BrightCare Center -Day Program for Special Needs Youth. BrightCare founder and director, Nyome Kamara, and ten young adults who are in the daycare program shared their testimonies, which was very touching and meaningful. There were very few dry eyes left among our team members in the audience.

On behalf of Micron Foundation, a $15,000 was presented to BrightCare. We look forward to partnering with BrighCare and serving our community.

A big thank you to for honoring us with their NewB award for the 2018 launch of our new employee-based giving and volunteerism program. This award recognizes “the most transformative new approach to a CSR program” and was presented during their Goodies Awards last week. “The Goodies” recognize progressive companies harnessing the power of goodness to make a positive impact in their communities, workplaces and the world. Our Micron team has so much goodness to share and we're proud of all that was accomplished in 2018.

“As a young black woman and daughter of Eritrean immigrants, I believe we have a duty to show the world that engineers come in all forms." Ida Habtemichael (pictured middle) is a member of our Manassas, VA team working as a process engineer. She also serves as co-chair of the site's Black Employee Network (BEN), a group fostering personal and professional growth of black employees, and one of Micron's newest Employee Resource Groups.

Ida strongly believes building community connections and raising cultural awareness at Micron makes it a more fulfilling work environment. “I grew up with many brilliant people who weren’t set up for success or didn’t think they could succeed in tech, so I look forward to BEN members becoming encouraging influencers in our community schools and universities."

Nearly 44 million Americans will experience a mental health issue this year. Tragically, 26 million of those cases will go untreated. It doesn’t have to be that way. VR technology could transform mental health protocols, and change the lives of those who suffer from PTSD and other conditions.

VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) was an exciting two-day event in Virginia where the top 60 high school teams from around the world competed for top honors and the chance to qualify for the VRC World Championship this Spring. Micron’s team members from our Manassas site and Global Quality organization volunteered with their families at the event, serving as referees, judges and general volunteers. It was amazing to see the innovative robotics that these talented high school students created. https://bit.ly/2riuGAZ

The FIRST Tech Challenge Charlottesville Qualifier Sponsored by Micron and hosted by UVA was attended by approximately 1,200 individuals and viewed by almost 400 more on the broadcasted live stream. It was a great event with 39 teams competing - a record for this venue.
