WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
- We are a petroleum construction and service company, what does that mean?
- We deal with the systems and materials used in facilities that dispense fuel.
- From underground fuel storage tank, installation, compliance testing, piping, Active electronic monitoring, all the way to the point of sale systems inside of these facilities, making fuel sales.
- Computers and electronics: most of these systems involve or are equipped with industrial, computers and electronics that manage operations
- Petroleum Environmental science concepts and practices: You will learn about the products our customers sell and consume.
- Electrical concepts and practices: All aspects of these systems consume power, you will learn how to diagnose and operate and install industry specific petroleum related systems.
- Underground fuel storage tanks (UST) piping, monitoring, & compliance: All fueling systems need storage for products. You will learn how to install, maintain and test these systems, and their impact on the environment.
From storing fuel products, piping, dispensing, and selling/metering these products, we do that here, you will learn that here.
This is a niche industry that has learning components from MANY industries. Our customers range from large facilities with massive storage and internal usage, to convenience stores with a single pump.
There is always something to learn, there are many certifications that can be earned here. There are many disciplines that this industry touches.

As a technician, you'll install and maintain cutting-edge fueling systems for retail gas stations, commercial fleets, and industrial clients. Your efforts will shine as you learn and tackle complex installations and services. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves working with their hands and solving challenging problems.
Key Points
Installations: assembly and installation of petroleum piping systems, pumps, and storage tanks, ensuring precision and safety. Installation of computer controllers and systems.
Mechanical: Learn to install, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical components like motors, pumps, and leak detectors.
Projects: excavation, piping, and concrete work, and comply with EPA/ND DEQ standards.
Team mentality: Work well with other technicians, collaborate and learn what is taught, and build strong relationships with crew, vendors, and clients.
Quality Control: Perform inspections and precision tests (e.g., hydro-sump, line testing) to guarantee system integrity and document results accurately on State provided forms.
Customer Engagement: Explain technical details clearly to clients, showcasing HOBBS commitment to excellence.
Safety Commitment: Adhere to strict safety protocols, including personal protective gear, while working outdoors in all weather.
What We Need From You
Requirements: Strong desire to learn a broad range of disciplines. A clean background.
Skills: Can you navigate and use a basic computer system?(Ex: windows laptop or the like, point, click, type, etc.). Have you done anything mechanical before, whether it be a job or your own projects? Can you follow a procedure, given adequate preparation.
High school diploma or GED.
Valid drivers license with a clean driving record (must pass Insurance provider MVR check).
Ability to lift 75-100 lbs., work at heights, crouch, bend, and kneel.
Willingness to travel (some overnights) and work outdoors in North Dakotas varied weather.
Mindset: attention to detail, and passion for hands-on problem-solving. Installer certifications or heavy equipment experience are a bonus but not required.
