Clinicore Labs Superior Science Creates Quality Patient Care

Innovating the next generation of clinical diagnostic tools to improve patient care.

After years in the clinical lab space, Kris Franklin inspired by the desire to create something meaningful and useful to the clinical lab space began looking for ways to simplify sample collection and open up a greater array of blood diagnostics to the average reference lab. Dissatisfied by the clinical utility of urine toxicology and the difficulty of venous blood collection, Kris Franklin set ou

t to find a way to simplify the collection process and expand diagnostic testing. In November of 2014, Kris Franklin met with Dr. Hooper over coffee to understand the fundamentals of small volume blood and how he applied a simplified collection technique to assist transplant patients taking immunosuppressants. From that coffee shop meeting the concept was born. The concept was simple utilize high end tandem mass spectrometry to reduce the amount of blood needed, so blood collection could be performed by the patient. Meetings with lab groups and different teams produced little opportunity to begin the work on a critical piece of technology. In 2015 a relationship was struck with a company and using Shimadzu tandem mass spectrometers the first prototype of a small volume blood application was created. Before product launch could become reality, the equipment was liquidated, but the dream and passion never subsided. As a consultant, Kris Franklin would work in other labs he had established and borrow time on their equipment to push the technology farther and create new ways to create better science. Unique sample prep technology combined with advanced tandem mass spectrometry experience led to scientific leaps forward in what was possible. In July of 2017 Kris Franklin took on 2 partners. One was technology savvy investor who saw the value in the technology that was created and the unique opportunity it provided. The other was a brilliant pathologist who also recognized the value of the technology. From those early meetings in 2017 Clinicore was formed. A company forged out of tireless persistence and a relentless pursuit of scientific perfection. Clinicore opened with a 12-million-dollar valuation and a mandate to utilize science to improve the quality of patient care. With resources in hand, Kris Franklin and his team focus on bringing novel diagnostic testing to the clinical arena.

Translating ‘food is medicine’ from concept to reality https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-026-04420-8

An ancient concept gathers scientific evidence as medically tailored meals show potential to lower healthcare utilization and costs — but larger studies are needed alongside policies to scale and sustain evidence-based approaches.

Beyond Glycemia in T1D-Part 2 https://www.endo.theclinics.com/article/S0889-8529(26)00035-6/fulltext?rss=yes

Insulin resistance (IR) in type 1 diabetes drives multiorgan injury that extends far beyond glycemic dysregulation. Subcutaneous insulin delivery reverses the portal-to-peripheral insulin gradient, downregulating peripheral insulin receptors and promoting ectopic lipogenesis. Excess insulin drives c...

As presented at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting, in a prespecified interim analysis of a phase 1a trial of IMA401—a new bispecific TCR-based T cell engager that binds a MAGE-A4/MAGE-A8 peptide presented by HLA-A*02:01—encouraging safety and a preliminary efficacy signal were observed in patients wi...

Pathogenic germline variants identify elevated cancer risk in pediatric patients referred for genetic testing https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-026-04451-1

Through large-scale genomic analysis, we show that pathogenic germline variants in pediatric cancer-predisposition genes are associated with increased subsequent tumor risk, highlighting their value for counseling and surveillance.

Gut microbiome screens could identify risk of Parkinson’s disease years before symptoms appear https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-026-04458-8

Innovative microbiome analysis revealed a part of the gut microbiome that changes coherently from healthy individuals across those with genetic risk of Parkinson’s disease to patients who are symptomatic. A large range of microbiome alterations within each of the three groups enables identificatio...

Combination of Glucagon-like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists and Sodium–Glucose Cotransporter Inhibitors in Type 1 Diabetes: Why, when and How? An Exploration of the Rationale and Clinical Scenarios for Combining These 2 Adjunctive Agents https://www.endo.theclinics.com/article/S0889-8529(26)00030-7/fulltext?rss=yes

Even with the most advanced insulin preparations and delivery systems currently available, it is challenging for many people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) to achieve target levels of glycemic management. Adjunct therapy in T1D consists of adding glucose-lowering agents besides insulin with the aim of l...

Insulin resistance (IR) is an underrecognized feature of type 1 diabetes (T1D), present even in lean individuals. Rising obesity rates have further amplified this burden, creating a mixed metabolic phenotype that accelerates cardiorenal disease. Paradoxically, despite fewer traditional cardiovascula...
