As mentioned in our previous update, our area received over 2 inches of rain in a relatively short period of time today. The reality is that when that much rain falls that quickly, our storm system becomes overwhelmed and needs time to catch up. Mother Nature doesn’t check tax bills, subdivision plats, or the age of a neighborhood before deciding where the rain falls.

A simple way to think about it is like a coffee filter. If you pour water into it faster than it can drain, it backs up. Given enough time, it catches up. The same applies to stormwater. Right now, farm fields are flooded, ditches are full, and some roadways are still holding water because there is simply nowhere else for it to go until water levels recede.

Our Public Works crew spent the day preparing for the forecasted storms and has continued working well beyond normal hours responding to issues throughout the Village. They are clearing storm structures, monitoring roadways, placing warning signs where needed, and addressing concerns as quickly and safely as possible.

We understand that standing water and drainage concerns are frustrating. However, we also ask residents to remember that our employees did not create the storm, nor can they stop the rain. What they can and will do is work tirelessly to minimize impacts and keep the community safe.

Please extend the same patience and respect to our crews. They are out serving the community this evening while many are spending time with their families, and that commitment deserves appreciation.
