A guest was looking right at your hotel on Google. Then Google sent them to Booking.com to find the price.

If your metasearch isn't set up right, your spot on the map shows a blank rate - and the only price a guest can see belongs to an OTA. Same room, your room, now with commission on it.

Most independents don't realize their metasearch isn't working properly - and that's exactly what we test in our free marketing report. Want us to check yours, plus where your comps show up and you don't? Comment "marketing comp" and give us a follow, and I'll send it over.

9 out of 10 people who start a booking on a hotel's own site never finish it - and most hotels never know they were there. Not cold strangers: guests who found you, opened your booking engine, started picking dates, then got pulled away by a slow page or a surprise fee. Book that same room on an OTA and you'd get three reminder emails by dinner. On the hotel's own site, silence. We've driven $20M+ in direct hotel bookings, and a lot of it is just winning back the guest who already tried to book you. Comment "finish" and give us a follow, and we'll get in touch.

They didn't search "boutique hotel near the park." They searched your hotel, by name - the highest-intent, cheapest guest you'll ever get. Then the results load and the top of the page is three OTAs bidding on your own name, reselling the same room at commission. You pay a toll to reach a guest who was already yours. We've driven $20M+ in direct hotel bookings, and a lot of it starts by owning the moment someone searches your name. Want to see who's bidding on yours? Comment "name" and give us a follow, and I'll pull it for you.

75%. That's how often an OTA is selling your rooms cheaper than your own website - the same rooms rate parity was supposed to protect. Guests aren't disloyal, they just click the cheaper number, and the hotel pays a commission to lose a guest it could have kept for free. Worse: when an OTA has the lowest rate, hotels pay ~47% more per click to win that guest back. We've driven $20M+ in direct bookings, and the fix usually isn't more ad budget - it's closing the gap the guest can see. Want to know where an OTA is beating your rate? Comment "parity" and give us a follow, and I'll pull it for you.

Anyone can fill a hotel in July. The best marketers fill it in November.

Peak season hides everything. When the whole town is booked, the hotel with a beautiful lobby and no real marketing looks identical to the one running an engine. Demand is doing the work for both.

Then the low season comes, and the truth shows up. One keeps the calendar full. The other watches it go soft and hopes.

The difference isn't the property. The all-season hotels are reaching guests who don't already know them - paid search, social, the places people plan trips. The seasonal ones live on OTAs, word of mouth, and their own name. "We haven't run real ads in years." Great in July. A cliff in November.

Marketing that only works when demand is high isn't marketing. It's weather.

You can find out where you stand before the slow season finds out for you. We'll pull your comp set - every ad they're running on Google, Meta, and metasearch, plus their reviews and rates - and show you exactly where your hotel sits against them, marketing-wise. Free right now. Comment "marketing comp" and give us a follow, and I'll send you the link.

We've driven over $20M in hotel bookings. The winners all start by admitting one thing - their photos don't sell.

"I have a Dropbox full of gorgeous photos." Then a pause. "Is that enough?"

I hear a version of this every week from hotel owners. Beautiful property, professional stills, and a camera roll that stops at the lobby. What they rarely have is anything moving, anything recent, or any read on which shot actually makes a guest book.

The owners who win share one habit that surprised me. They ask a blunt question early: what do you actually need from us? One innkeeper asked me for a literal list of the photos to take. That property is now one of our strongest performers.

A stunning hotel is not content. A wall of static photos is a brochure, and guests scroll past brochures. They stop for a room that feels alive: a real morning on the terrace, a nine-second pour at the bar, a face.

You cannot out-spend boring creative. More budget behind a flat photo just buys more people ignoring you, faster. Fix the creative and the same effort comes back as booked, stayed room nights.

Want our guidelines for content that sells? Comment "shot list" and give us a follow - I'll send them straight to your DMs.

Most hotel marketing reports treat the purchase as the finish line.

A booking comes in, the channel takes the credit, the report celebrates.

But in hotels, a purchase is not revenue yet.

A reservation can cancel.
A guest can no-show.
The value can shrink before arrival.
Channel costs quietly eat the margin.

The number that settles it is stayed revenue — the revenue that actually made it through the stay.

That is the scoreboard we built Sail around. We connect every marketing dollar to stayed revenue across Google, social, metasearch, and AI search — so hotels act on what truly works.

Purchase is not the finish line. Stayed revenue is.

Who is your ideal guest?

For many hotels, the answer starts with assumptions: affluent couples, frequent travelers, families, business professionals, or luxury travelers.

But what if some of your best future guests don't fit those categories?

AI is changing the way hotels think about audience targeting by identifying patterns across thousands of data points that people simply can't analyze on their own.

The future of hotel marketing isn't about reaching more people. It's about finding the right people, even if they don't match the audience you expected.

More website traffic sounds great on paper. But traffic alone doesn't fill rooms.

10,000 visitors with no plans to travel won't outperform 500 travelers who are actively looking for their next stay.

That's why successful hotel marketing isn't just about attracting more clicks. It's about connecting with travelers who have genuine booking intent.

When your audience is built around quality instead of quantity, campaigns become more efficient, conversion rates improve, and marketing dollars work harder.

Sometimes, the biggest audience isn't the best audience.
