April is Safe Digging Month! 🌷🚧

At RushShelby Energy, safety is always in season, especially when it comes to digging projects. Whether you're planting trees, installing a fence, setting a mailbox, or starting a big landscaping project, digging without knowing what’s below the surface can be dangerous.

Underground utility lines, including electric, gas, water, and communication lines, are often just inches below the ground. Striking one can cause significant injury, costly repairs, and service interruptions for you and your neighbors.

That’s why we remind all members to call 811 before you dig. By contacting 811 at least two business days before your project, utility companies will mark the approximate location of underground lines on your property, free of charge. It’s a simple step that protects you, your property, and your community.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a reminder that the choices we make behind the wheel can have life-changing consequences. At RushShelby Energy this message is especially important.

Our lineworkers and crews spend a significant amount of time working along roadways to maintain and restore power for our members. Whether they are repairing storm damage, upgrading equipment, or responding to an outage, their offices are often just a few feet from passing traffic. A distracted driver looking at a phone for even a few seconds can put these workers and others on the road at serious risk.

Taking your eyes off the road for just five seconds while traveling at 55 mph is like driving the length of a football field blindfolded. That is why we encourage everyone to stay focused and distraction-free when driving. Put the phone down, avoid adjusting devices while driving, and give your full attention to the road.

If you see utility crews working, remember to slow down and move over when possible. Indiana’s Move Over Law is designed to protect roadside workers, including the lineworkers who work hard to keep your lights on.
