My cousin called last summer and asked if we would be interested in another project at her property. My great grandfather had closed in the old deck on the 2nd floor and built the roof top deck. It was a good opportunity to remove the drop ceiling and add molding. Would you believe my cousins side of the family has lived in the same house since it was built in the 1700s! She has done a great job rehabbing the place.

This is the second floor set of stairs we relocated on the dormer project in old town of Marblehead. We remodeled the first floor set of stairs as well. Everything about the project was custom and came out great! It was a true pleasure to take on this project. **The project included relocating a set of stairs, remodel an existing set of stairs, cut a hole in the roof and build a dormer, build and finish 2 full bathrooms, build and finish a roof top deck, build a custom ladder to get to roof top deck, finish 1 loft and finish 4 bedrooms and replace the front door.

Happy veterans day to all the old and young veterans. The Eleventh month, on the Eleventh day, on the Eleventh hour the guns of WW1 fell silent. Also Happy Birthday Marines! November 10, 1775 the date the Marine Corps came alive! I went to Belleau Wood, France with my brother in 2018, it is a WW1 battleground and memorial, with deep Marine Corps history and tradition. I was able to drink out of the infamous fountain with lore behind the “devil dog” nickname given to Marines by the German soldiers! My grandpa, Rensselear Havens, pictured with me, was in the Navy during the Korean War with his brother, Dick Havens! The two of them inspired the entire family with their kind hearts and social talents to love and treat veterans with gratitude and respect. Thank you all for your service!

Here are some pictures of the siding project we’re on. The inside corners and outside corners getting weaved. It is a time consuming process but it’s very rewarding. We had a few beautiful days this week. It reminded me of spring time as a kid doing siding with my dad and my uncles. It will be nice to get this side buttoned up and break down the staging. I’m always pumped to put the staging to use.

This is a desk I just finished building, painting and installing. It was the first part to much larger project. After it was ready to install the homeowner decided she wanted to make some big changes. So we ended up removing a wall and breaking through the cement slab to dig down 14 inches ultimately leveling out the floor. I had done cabinets and built ins before but this was the first time I had my shop setup. It made a huge difference. I ended up building a paint shop with ventilation to do my own finish work, I have a new respect for cabinet finishers. We had done the baseboard heater covers earlier this year, digging down 14” left a problem for us to solve. We ended up trimming out the retaining curb for a nice level finish. I’m extremely happy with the final product.

This was a complete project. We had great plans to work off of provided by Jeff Tucker Architecture. We ran into a surprise when excavating which resulted in changing the design of the patio. Originally it was all going to be one level, we created the step to save cost and keep the square footage requested. The added step gave us an opportunity to add more Hinkley lighting, which always looks great. We added the gas fireplace to the retaining wall because, FIRE! Finally, we completed the sunroom adding the French doors to the patio. The Sunroom boasts heated flooring, a cassette mini split and 3 new skylights. The homeowners are happy with this project and as a result I am very happy. I am eager for the next one, hopefully we GC more landscapes with N.P. Masonry. Thank you to the homeowners for giving us the opportunity to work in your home and to bring your ideas to life! On to the next one!

This is the primary bedroom on the second floor of the previous post. This project was in 2017, I was 28 years old. I was a subcontracted laborer for my dad and my uncle. I had my unsupervised contractors license. I began immersing myself in knowledge. The start to finish process of the “big” projects. We did some great projects from 2017 to 2020, it was the greatest education I have ever received. I am always grateful for that time. It was a tremendous confidence builder. In weird way I’m thankful for Covid. I probably wouldn’t have gone out on my own full time if I wasn’t forced to. I am forever grateful to my clients (who are friends now) and to the word of mouth recommendations. Thank you!

This was probably the largest room I’ve ever tiled. We removed the basement stairs in the center of the room. We ended up digging the basement out to gain head room. We added a 20x16 addition on the back of the house and the bulkhead door became the stairs down into the basement. This was 2017. More pics to follow

The shower of the master bath we rehabbed last year. I highlighted the other features in a previous post. We had been tracking a leak in this bathroom for years. The homeowner was unable to use it. So she decided to make her new shower, the shower of her dreams. She didn’t want a shower curb, she wanted accent lighting at the base, a steam unit, hidden shelves (not pictured) a handheld and a rain head. I think she did a great job with her requests and she gathered all the material we just put it together.

This was a house remodel we did at the end of 2022. We rehabbed something in every room in this house. We took the old chimney down to gain more room in a bedroom. We removed the eave closet in 3 of the bedroom. All new baseboard and plinth blocks throughout. One and a half bathrooms were remodeled. Kitchen remodel. New mudroom and railings and balusters. All new interior doors and one new exterior door plus hardware. It was one of those projects that seemed to keep on going. It was a lot of fun. The apron moldings under the windows are 3 piece custom molding from the 1800s it took awhile to match them. We ended up setting up a job site router table and running 55 feet of new molding.

Did a quick mantle piece for a friend. It had basic trim around the fireplace. Instead of removing it and risking cracking the horse hair plaster, I added to it. It worked out well. We kept it simple. My grandpa used to say mantles are like a wedding cakes, you just keep adding layers until you’re happy with it.

New railings and balusters in this beautiful old home. My dad was in town on vacation so I recruited his help. Work doesn’t seem like work when he’s on the job. We made up custom post caps because we ended up sliding new post wraps over the existing bottom posts. The top post is new and did not get a post wrap, the shoe molding would have been overhanging the top platform. We went with red oak railings so they’ll match the treads when they’re finished and pre primed fir balusters because they’re getting painted along with the posts.
