Here's the truth: even brand-new homes can have gaps, air leaks or insulation issues that let heat slip out and drive energy use up. Simple steps like sealing drafts, checking insulation and monitoring your energy use can make a new home even more efficient and comfortable.

They're way too into long-distance relationships.

If your home relies on extension cords everywhere, it's a sign you’ve outgrown the setup.

It’s time to commit… to more outlets (installed by a professional). 🚩

Update: Peak Alert has ended.

⚡️ Peak Alert in Effect ⚡️
This is a Peak Alert morning, which means electricity demand is expected to be higher than normal. During peak hours, energy use is more expensive and puts extra strain on the system.

You can help by shifting or reducing electricity use until the peak alert ends. Try delaying using washing machines, electric dryers, or dishwashers, lowering your thermostat a few degrees, and turning off unnecessary lights and electronics.

During Peak Alerts, radio-controlled switches on water heaters will go into effect for members who participate in our load management program.

We also encourage members to sign up for SmartHub to better monitor and manage their energy use. In SmartHub, you can track daily usage and even set custom alerts to get notified if your energy use rises above a certain number of kilowatt-hours.

🔥 Space heaters: cozy… but dangerous for your electric bill.

They may feel small, but space heaters can be some of the biggest energy hogs in your home. 😬Running just ONE space heater for hours at a time can send your electric usage — and your bill — climbing fast.

In fact, using a space heater like a main heat source can cost far more than your regular heating system.

If you use one, be smart:

Heat only the room you’re in 🏠➡️

Turn it off when you leave — don’t let it run nonstop ⏱️🚫

Keep doors closed to trap the warmth 🚪🔥

Never try to heat your whole house with one

Stay warm, stay safe, and protect your wallet this winter 💙❄️⚡

🥶 Brrr — it’s going to be COLD!

We're expecting frigid temperatures this week in southeast Ohio. Extremely cold weather not only puts strain on the electric grid - it can also lead to higher energy use in your home and, as a result, higher electric bills.

When temperatures drop, heating systems work harder and longer to keep homes comfortable. That increased usage can add up quickly.

Here are a few simple ways to stay warm and keep energy costs in check:

🌡️ Turn your thermostat down a few degrees when you're asleep or away from home. Even small adjustments can make a difference.

🚪 Seal drafts around doors and windows with weatherstripping or rolled towels.

☀️ Open curtains on sunny days to let natural heat in, and close them at night to keep the cold out.

🔌 Unplug extra devices and electronics you're not using. They still draw power even when turned off.

🛠️ Change or clean furnace filters so your heating system runs efficiently.

You can also monitor your daily usage and set up outage and billing alerts through SmartHub, our free online and mobile app!

Stay safe and warm!
