Republican critics and some in the energy industry have often cast President Obama as hostile to fossil fuels, but the White House on Monday issued a clear endorsement of the domestic oil and gas boom and the controversial drilling technique that has made it possible.

The Washington Water Solutions team worked with the U.S. Geological Survey Appalachian Basin & Produced Waters teams and Stonebridge Operating Co., LLC to sample various oilfield fluids during a break in the weather a couple of weeks ago.

A part of WWS's ongoing work, partnering with industry, educational institutions & government agencies to solve problems and address concerns related to developing our natural resources.

Micro-bubble flocculation was another test the WWS technicians ran last year. This 1/5 scale model demonstrated injecting microscopic air bubbles increased separation efficiency by a factor of more than 5x for suspended solids. Coupled with electrocoagulation or another treatment method it can also help to remove dissolved solids from flowback water after well completion. Recycling water efficiently is a key element in horizontal shale plays.

During 2012 & 2013 Washington Water Solutions conducted numerous tests and demos of various methods to clean various oilfield waters for reuse, recycling or disposal. This demo was to show students how electrocoagulation can be used to remove dissolved solids from drilling and completion fluids.

On March 23, 2013 new benches and lab equipment were installed in our water lab located in the former National Refinery office building at Mile Run in Marietta, OH. The refinery was opened to process crude oil from the 1890's Cow Run boom in western Washington County, OH and was famous for its White Rose brand of white gasoline for lamps.
