CITY COUNCIL MEETING

PLEASE BE ADVISED that the City Council Meeting scheduled to resume on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. has been POSTPONED.

The City Council Meeting will resume during the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Marion City Council on:

Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers of Marion City Hall, located at:

123 E. Jefferson Street
Marion, Alabama

The regularly scheduled meeting date of Monday, September 7, 2026, falls on the Labor Day Holiday. In accordance with the City’s regular meeting schedule, when a regularly scheduled meeting falls on an observed City holiday, the meeting is rescheduled for the Tuesday immediately following the holiday.

On behalf of Mayor Dexter Hinton and the City of Marion, we extend our prayers for safety, support, success, and an outstanding school year to ALL of our community’s school administrators, educators, students, parents, and families.

Whether you are just beginning, heading to elementary, middle, or high school, stepping onto a college campus, or helping guide and educate our young people, we wish you a year filled with learning, growth, new friendships, bigger dreams, successful extracurricular activities, and positivity.

To our educators and administrators, thank you for answering the call to educate, lead, encourage, and inspire. To our parents and families, thank you for being the foundation of support. And to our students: work hard, dream BIG, be kind, get involved, and believe in yourself. You’ve got this!

❤️ OUR HOME. OUR COMMUNITY. ONE MARION.

Community is more than the place where we live. Community is what we choose to build, preserve, nurture, and leave better for those who come after us.

Here in Marion, every citizen has something meaningful to contribute. We may have different gifts, professions, experiences, and resources, but when those gifts are poured back into the place we call home, they become part of something much greater than ourselves.

Today, we proudly recognize and sincerely thank Mr. Charles Flaherty, local business owner of As Time Goes By, for demonstrating exactly what that spirit of commUNITY looks like.

Mr. Flaherty saw an opportunity to use his creative talents to help beautify our city and chose to act. He volunteered to paint both the City’s Old Train Depot and Marion City Hall, Fire Station, & Police Departments generously providing his labor at no charge to the City of Marion.

There is something especially meaningful about the name of his business, As Time Goes By, in this moment.

As time goes by, buildings age. Paint fades. Communities change. Generations come and go. But what remains are the marks we leave behind, the care we show for the places entrusted to us, and the ways we choose to serve one another.

Mr. Flaherty is leaving his mark on Marion not simply through fresh paint, but through service, generosity, community pride, and action. His work reminds us that preserving our community is about honoring where we have been while taking responsibility for what our home will look like as time goes by.

Imagine the Marion we can continue building when each of us asks, “What can I do with what I have to make my community better?”

It may be a talent. It may be time. It may be planting flowers, cleaning a property, mentoring a child, supporting a local business, helping a neighbor, sharing an idea, or simply taking greater pride in the place we call home.

No contribution made with a genuine heart for community is too small.

On behalf of Mayor Dexter Hinton and the City of Marion, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Charles Flaherty for his selfless service, visionary leadership, generosity, and willingness to step forward and help beautify our city.
