5K Memorial Run to Support Cancer Research. Jeremy Binder, former MCHS employee, passed away at the age of 29 after a short battle with colon cancer. His family and friends are organizing a 5K Memorial Run on Sept 5th. All proceeds are staying local and are being donated to cancer research. Krisann Mauritz is a great point of contact in the Foundation for any questions.

“On Saturday August 1st I was part of a group of employees representing Marshfield Clinic / Sanford at the Disability Proud Festival in Plover WI. The event was sponsored by Midstate Independent Living Choices and featured music, food trucks, games, vendors, resource booths and activities such as adaptive hiking, biking, and kayaking. I am part of the ADAPT (Abled and Disabled Allies Partnering Together) Employee Resource Group, and we partnered with Human Resources to staff a booth at the event to not only promote Sanford Health overall, but employment opportunities and support groups available as well. Employees in attendance: Taylor Meyer (Human Resources – Employee Recruitment), Jordan Anderson (Receptionist – Gastroenterology), Angela Okon (Behavioral Health Therapist) and Rob Strenn (Research IT).”

We are so proud of our very own Anna Wilson for her ongoing patient advocacy work. Thank you! From Anna:
“I recently attended the NRG Oncology Research summer meeting in Denver, CO. It was my third time attending as a patient advocate for the Patient Centered Outcome Research core committee. It was my first time as a patient advocate for the Uterine Corpus Core Committee.

During this meeting, I learned that I had also been appointed to the NRG Protocol Operations Management (POM) Committee, a position I will hold for three years. I was able to network with incredible investigators who are leading the way in cancer research. The investigators are interested in hearing about my views as a patient advocate as well as a research coordinator. The highlight was hearing the lead statistician at NRG speak at our PAC meeting. I wanted to attend as much of the meeting as I could, so I did a quick hike at Red Rocks at 6 AM!”

We are pleased to share that ICTR has published a brief news story about the ICTR Pilot Awards Program, which features an announcement of the collaborative research awards including the collaboration between Dr. Alex Linz and Dr. Alana Sterkel in support of improved diagnostic approaches for Blastomyces dermatitidis infections.

The Pilot Awards Program supports interdisciplinary research teams by funding innovative projects that translate clinical discoveries into practice while advancing investigators’ careers.
