SAN FRANCISCO ANNOUNCES 50% REDUCTION IN CARBON EMISSIONS, BETTER AIR QUALITY THROUGH USE OF NEXDIESEL

GOLDEN GATE PETROLEUM HELPS CITY LEAD BY EXAMPLE IN MAKING MUNICIPAL FLEET PETROLEUM FREE

MARTINEZ, CA – The City of San Francisco is taking the leading role in showing how big cities can drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions 50% by simply converting municipal fleets to renewable diesel in a new contract between the city and Golden Gate Petroleum.

City of San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee announced on December 11th that the city has completely cut out the use of petroleum diesel across the city’s diesel fleet. This helps Mayor Lee in meeting his goal in being a leader in combating global climate change and creating a sustainable future for the City of San Francisco.

“As the global climate negotiations conclude, San Francisco and cities worldwide must continue to lead by taking bold actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions immediately,” said Mayor Lee. “These actions cannot wait. San Francisco has ended its use of petroleum diesel to fill up the City’s fleet of vehicles and will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality for our residents immediately today.”

In partnership with Golden Gate Petroleum, the City of San Francisco has made the switch to clean burning NEXDIESEL Renewable Diesel at all 53 city-run fueling sites. The fuel will be used across the City’s fleet of 1,966 vehicles in operation. The Mayor’s Office estimates that the City’s Fleet Management Division will reduce it’s greenhouse gas emissions by 50%, or 50,000 metric tons, through renewable diesel use.

Replacing petroleum diesel with NEXDIESEL will also help the City meet it’s goals of raising the air quality and reducing the carbon emissions it’s citizens breathe. One of the immediate impacts will be the reduction of air pollutants to San Francisco’s lower-income communities. Communities often located around high traffic areas in the City.

"The City of San Francisco continues to be a leader in fighting climate change. Nexdiesel Renewable Diesel allows any fleet to be 100% green and sustainable without suffering any operational issues. Golden Gate Petroleum is proud to be the number one distributor of the highest quality non-petroleum diesel fuels in the world,” Pat O’Keefe, owner of Golden Gate Petroleum and NEXGEN Fuel, said.

For the past two years, Golden Gate Petroleum has been working closely with Neste, the world's largest producer of renewable diesel, to make this fuel available to both public and private fleets in California.

Renewable diesel has the same chemical properties as petroleum diesel and it also meets the petroleum diesel specification (ASTM D975), allowing fleets to seamlessly switch with no additional investment or engine modifications. In addition, renewable diesel burns cleaner, meaning less maintenance costs and reduced emissions.

Golden Gate Petroleum, a 69-year-old petroleum and biofuel distributor, was one of the first to market Neste’s NEXBTL renewable diesel in the US, making the fuel available to commercial fleets throughout California in early 2013. Since bringing the fuel to market, Golden Gate Petroleum has converted many public and private fleets through raising awareness of this sustainable fuel. Since then the company has been experiencing a dramatic increase in demand for renewable diesel. To date, Golden Gate has sold over 60 million gallons of this low-carbon alternative fuel making a tremendous impact on air quality throughout California.

NEXGEN Fuel was formed by Patrick O’Keefe in 2015. NEXGEN’s mission is to identify and bring next-generation alternative fuels to the marketplace. NEXGEN’s first fuel is Neste’s NEXBTL renewable diesel, which it is selling under the name NEXDIESEL.

Golden Gate Petroleum Aiding California In Becoming First State in Nation to Embrace Renewable Diesel

Governor Brown Mandates Agencies To Make The Switch For All Diesel-Powered Vehicles, Equipment

MARTINEZ, CA – A new contract between the State of California and Golden Gate Petroleum will help the state make a huge leap towards meeting the aggressive goals mandated by Governor Jerry Brown’s executive order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 40% lower than 1990 levels by the year 2030. The agreement will convert one of the largest fleets in the US to Renewable Diesel (RD99).

Governor Brown announced on December 9, that all state agencies will now be required to purchase renewable diesel for it’s fleet of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. Golden Gate Petroleum was selected by the California Department of General Services to be the largest of the suppliers to the state.

“Golden Gate Petroleum wants to congratulate the State of California for making such a strong commitment towards fighting climate change by converting their entire diesel fleet to Renewable Diesel,” said Pat O'Keefe, owner of Golden Gate Petroleum and NEXGEN Fuel.

The two-year contract will have the company providing 80% of the state agencies with NEXDIESEL Renewable Diesel by NEXGEN Fuels. In a statement released by DGS, the agency estimates the use of renewable diesel to be an annual 49,000 ton reduction of carbon intensity by making the switch from petroleum diesel to renewable diesel.

“By using green or renewable diesel fuels, the state can further reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions connected to government operations,” said DGS Director Daniel C. Kim. “This directive to state agencies will help us meet the governor’s goals for combating climate change.”

The contract announcement comes in support of the Governor’s continuing efforts to meet climate change goals set by his administration. Governor Brown signed Executive Order B-30-15 mandating earlier this year setting a state target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions reduction of 40% lower than 1990 levels by year 2030, and 80% lower than 1990 levels by the year 2050.
