Turn Memorial Benches Into a Local Business Opportunity

Families want meaningful ways to remember someone they love. Yet many park memorial benches offer only a small nameplate.

Laser engraving can turn the bench itself into a memorial—with names, messages, artwork, or a family story.

How to get started:

1. Search for your city’s Memorial Bench Program.
2. Contact Parks & Recreation.
3. Ask who supplies and engraves their benches.
4. Bring a beautiful engraved design sample.
5. Offer customized engraving within city standards.
6. Explore becoming an approved local supplier.

Then expand to cemeteries, funeral homes, churches, schools and retirement communities.

Don’t just engrave a bench. Create a place to sit, remember and connect.

Emotional branding is a strategic marketing approach that builds brand equity by creating personal, affective connections between a company and its audience. Instead of focusing primarily on rational product features, price points, or technical specifications, emotional branding appeals directly to a consumer's psychological needs, desires, personal identity, and emotional aspirations.

Origins and Key Milestones
Late 20th-Century Paradigm Shift: During the 1980s and 1990s, global manufacturing led to widespread product parity—competing items were virtually identical in function and quality. Brands like Nike ("Just Do It," 1988) and Apple ("Think Different," 1997) pioneered a shift away from utility, framing their products as symbols of personal belief, self-expression, and empowerment.
Formalization by Marc Gobé (2001): Brand designer and strategist Marc Gobé formally introduced and codified the term in his 2001 seminal book, Emotional Branding: The New Paradigm for Connecting Brands to People. Gobé argued that the traditional consumer-brand relationship was cold and transactional, proposing instead that brands must interact with customers through sensory experience, dialogue, and deep empathy.

Neuroscience Foundations: The rise of affective neuroscience in the mid-1990s—notably research by neuroscientist Antonio Damasio—demonstrated that emotion is essential to human decision-making. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies later confirmed that when evaluating brands, consumers rely primarily on emotional feelings and experiences rather than objective data.

With AI you can take a photo of their bar or restaurant, design, quote, sell and engrave.

Dual Laser Advantage:

Engrave black granite at ultra-high resolution:
Left MOPA fiber laser at 300 dpi, right CO2 laser at 150 dpi.

The MOPA fiber laser can achieve 1000 dpi on granite. Using a standard 3-inch lens, the dot size on granite increases with laser power—higher power delivers more localized heat, resulting in larger microfractures. By adjusting the power and dpi, you can produce different photographic effects.

The pet marker on the left emphasizes fast production rates (less dpi means quicker engraving) and maximum clarity. Finer lasers used in Galvo systems are well established, while MOPA finer lasers in a gantry x-y system with a shorter focus lens are pioneered by AP Lazer. Their customers are beginning to generate results that remain unmatched worldwide.

This creates opportunities not only for market advantages but also for digital content creation. Lead your company and brand to be the only ones featured on YouTube, Instagram, and blogs through gantry x-y practice and experiments.

The table presents the theoretical calculation of laser power versus engraving dpi.
