There are probably very few of these still running but if you have a rust spot like this on the side of your Utica boiler please call your HVAC contractor and get the condensate drain pipes done the correct way before winter. Someone installed a bunch of these the wrong way. The pipe sticking up is supposed to be after the trap. The first one I noticed was when the fire department found 11 times the deadly amount of carbon monoxide in a couples home. It had been like that for 20+ years but a blockage in the intake pipe made it considerably worse. Below are the directions for piping it correctly.
