A star being born looks nothing like you'd imagine.

No gentle glow. No slow fade-in. Just two jets of gas firing out of the poles at hundreds of thousands of miles an hour, tearing through the cloud that made the thing.

That bright bar across the middle is a disk of dust and gas seen edge on. It's the leftovers, and it's where planets come from. The star itself sits buried in the center, still feeding, still hidden from view.

By the time that light crossed space and hit the telescope, the whole event was already centuries old.

Birth is violent everywhere. Space included.
