Fun cabin bathroom remodel in Red Feather Lakes, from some years back.

An extensive and truly unique one of a kind bath.

The slate is from Montana, the milled pine is from the old Forks Lumber in Bellvue, counter top slab & legs are from the Red Feather Lakes.

Homage was payed with the family brand, managed to keep it as a surprise for the owner. A serendipitous feature in the stone revealed itself as a book matched bull, which became the centerpiece of the shower.

A complete replacement of the plumbing, well system, under house insulation and encapsulation (cabin is on piers) was done at the same time; along with structural reinforcements for the stone work.

With all new (proper) plumbing & insulation under foot, this cabin became usable throughout the winter.

A very special little place that I'm honored to have transformed.

Repairing a shower base.

Customer didn't like the birdbaths, low spots that made for puddles of standing water. No big deal, just chip out a few tiles here & there, put them back in flat.

Oh jeeze, that looks like... yep concrete, that's not quite right. That drain doesn't look right either, oh no, looking at it from underneath doesn't look right either; remove a little grout around the drain & oh boy, previous contractor neglected to install a shower pan liner or any waterproofing.

Only option was to remove the floor, a course of tile around it and the curb.

Went with a liner, availability issues of a small town.

Underneath the concrete shower bed was drywall of all things, wet mushy sheetrock, on the floor to build up around the subfloor where the last guy took a chainsaw to the floor. He cut a third of the way through two floor joists. Okay, no biggie, repair the joists & subfloor.

Now that we have a structural floor, I reinforced for the weight of the walls too since the floor was torn apart: let's do this right; recess the studs a little, so as that the bottom course of tile lie flat on the wall, build a perimeter for the liner to have contact; install the liner, properly with no fasteners beneath the waterline, got a few tricks up my sleeve for that; flood test the liner overnight, all good; throw down a proper dry pack sloped floor, some dura-rock (seam sealed into existing walls) & red-guard for a good waterproofing membrane; time to cover all that work & polish this turd, luckily the homeowner had just enough leftover tile & grout from the original installation (less the stone for the curb) to finish it out. Wallah, a functional shower.

Moral of the story: make sure your contractors know what they're doing and take pride in their work.

I offer you my knowledge and experience for new installations, repairs, remodels or consulting/ management to make sure the jobs done right the first time.

Just have to love the high prairie winds. Wish my great grandfather, my grandfather or one of my great uncles, or even their kids or grandkids (I guess that's me too) would have done this years ago.

Let's start with a hundred trees & 150 shrubs. Make ready twice that for this fall. Proper windbreak for the next generation. Maybe for my rocking chair years too.

I can help with a windbreak or general landscaping design and implementation. Extensive experience with soft and hard landscaping, irrigation, stone works and surfaces, as well as an urban arborist.

Fun kitchen remodel. Used to be a dark depressing cave of a space. Added a 10' patio window to really open up the room with natural light. Along with all the new can lights, hanging Edison pendants, along with the over & under cabinet lighting.

House had reoccurring cracking of the drywall at the transition from the kitchen to the vaulted ceiling living room, right of the patio window. Not only did we eliminate the problem. After opening up the entire north kitchen wall with a second story above it; structurally rebuilding wall, integrating the stories, new lvl header & existing 2 story post into the basement foundation wall: removing temporary support structures not a single creak was heard nor crack appeared, although anticipated, on any story.

Moved the sink and dishwasher to the new center island. Painted the existing cabinets, they were in great shape & to save costs. Owner went with a darker color once the new natural light was realized, complemented the room greatly with the new quartz counter tops.

Full disclosure: this project was done with DBF kitchens in Firestone CO.
