A recurring issue identified during inspections is the improper storage within 18 inches of the sprinkler deflector. According to NFPA 25 5.2.1.2.1*, the clearance between the deflector and the top of storage must be at least 18 inches (457 mm). Although there are a few exceptions to this rule, the 18-inch clearance requirement is typically enforced in common storage settings such as closets, offices, and inventory areas to ensure proper sprinkler function and safety compliance. Here is one example of what this looks like. If you are unsure, or haven't had your building inspected within the last year, feel free to give us a call!
