The importance of having surge protection on your entire house or on your HVAC system is important during storm season. This is a prime example of what could happen. This customer had a lightning strike nearby his house or it struck his house. They think it hit the internet tower and travel through his electrical panel. It ended blowing the fan relays on this control board and caused a low voltage short. Luckily he had an inline fuse that saved his transformer, this board was the only thing we had to replace. There are different types of surge protection. There are protectors that break with over current and protectors that absorb over current. Proper surge protection at his main panel could have absorbed some of the surge that would have prevented the travel of the surge to other areas of the home through the panel. Although if you have a direct lighting strike it would be hard to prevent any type of damage to appliances. We would recommend calling your local electrician for a whole house surge protector but we can install surge protection for HVAC systems. Both would be highly recommended in any situation. We had a customer ask us to install their dual head mini split. This is probably the most line hide covers we have ever used on a mini split. These line hide covers are primed and the customer will be painting them to match the exterior color.

A little reminder for all of our heatpump customers. Once the temperatures hit 35 degrees or below, especially if it hits -1 degrees with the wind chill like they are projecting, your heatpump will not keep up. It is recommended to use your emergency heat or auxiliary strips. If anyone is having any trouble over the next few days please give us a call 512-284-0186. Everyone stay safe and wrap those pipes.
