Who needs a haunted house when you've seen what's hiding behind the walls of a real one? 👻

A few spooky surprises we've encountered over the years:

🔌 Knob-and-tube wiring. Decades old, still live, and hiding where you'd least expect it.

🪵 The notched joist. When someone's plumbing shortcut becomes our structural surprise.

💧 The slow leak. Years of hidden water damage, revealed with one swing of a hammer.

🦇 The unexpected tenants. Mice, bats, hornets' nests. Some alive. Some not. All equally unwelcome. 😳

After nearly 50 years in construction, we've learned that surprises come with the territory. That's why we plan ahead, know what to look for, and keep homeowners in the loop when the unexpected happens.

A few good scares, a lot of good stories. Happy Halloween from all of us at Cheramy Builders!

During construction, these homeowners took some time to write messages and words of encouragement throughout the framing of their new home.

Soon, the walls will be covered and these messages will be out of sight, but they'll always be part of the home.

Long after construction is complete, these words will remain, woven into the home where their family's memories are just beginning.🤍

A lot of options on the table! 🏡

Siding, trim, soffits, fascia, and all the colors and finishes that bring a custom home's exterior together.

Lou and Peter spent some time comparing samples, talking through combinations, and looking at how each selection works with the others.

It's one thing to like a color on its own. It's another to see how everything comes together to create the look and feel of a home.

Lou has always asked a lot of questions. It's part of how he builds. He looks closely at the plans, thinks through how everything will come together in the field, and isn't afraid to ask the tough questions when something needs a closer look.

Julia Webster of Bouril Design recently shared that Lou's questions make her a better designer. And the feeling goes both ways.

Good designers make us better builders, too. There's a lot of value in bringing different perspectives to the table, challenging each other's thinking, and working through the complexities of a build together.

A little family time at the showroom!

When you're building a home for family, the selection process looks a lot like it does for any of our homeowners: lots of options, plenty of conversations, and helpful guidance along the way.

Peter's case for large-format shower tile? Fewer grout lines, a cleaner, more continuous look, and less to scrub. Hard to argue with that!

The favorite so far is a stone-look tile with warm, natural veining. It has the character of natural stone without the same level of upkeep. What do you think?

If you're thinking about a project for next spring or summer, fall is when the planning happens.
