A common question we get at Tennsmith is: How do you load a coil onto a decoiler?

Here’s the process:

Retract the core –
Fully retract the mechanical core/mandrel so it is smaller than the inside diameter of the coil.

Insert the core –
Slide the retracted core into the center of the coil while the coil is safely positioned on the ground.

Secure the coil –
Expand the core using the adjustment nut or handle until it has a snug, secure grip inside the coil.

Lift the coil –
Using a forklift and the proper lifting point, carefully lift the coil and core assembly.

Mount it to the decoiler –
Align the core with the decoiler frame, lower it into place, and secure it to the stand.

Set the tension –
Start with light brake tension and gradually adjust as you begin feeding material for a smooth, controlled unwind.
