For nearly 13 years, Matthew Brickell has been helping LSI clients solve complex automation and controls challenges while building a reputation as a dependable teammate, lifelong learner, and problem-solver. Based out of the Memphis office, Matthew's journey to LSI took a few unexpected turns, but he's found a home where collaboration, continuous learning, and technical challenges go hand in hand.
Matthew earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and later completed a master's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on electro-optics from the University of Memphis. Before joining LSI in 2013, he worked in Huntsville, Alabama, supporting Army testing and evaluation programs. Looking for a new challenge, he connected with LSI through family and mutual connections, ultimately making the move back to the Memphis area.
Since then, Matthew has spent much of his career supporting industrial automation projects, particularly within the pulp and paper industry. His experience spans a variety of technologies – primarily Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell Automation systems, but also Siemens and Bailey platforms – giving him the opportunity to work across numerous industries and applications.
What keeps Matthew engaged after more than a decade at LSI is the constant opportunity to learn.
He also credits LSI's culture of collaboration as one of the company's greatest strengths. "People are always willing to help each other out. It really feels like a healthy, functioning family where everyone works together to solve problems and support each other."
One project that stands out in Matthew's career involved a major outage that brought together more than 30 LSI employees from multiple offices. Working around the clock during a compressed shutdown schedule, the team successfully completed large-scale control system upgrades that required coordination across disciplines, offices, and technologies. For Matthew, the experience highlighted what makes LSI unique: talented people willing to step up and work together to deliver for the client.
Outside of work, Matthew enjoys reading, tennis, cooking, video games, and even creating the occasional Bob Ross-inspired painting. He also enjoys traveling and has been to several destinations across Europe; he hopes to one day make a bucket-list trip to Australia and learn how to surf.
Family is another important part of Matthew's life. As a proud uncle, he's earned the title of "funcle" (fun uncle) from his niece and nephew, a role he wears with pride.
Throughout his career, Matthew has demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to doing the right thing for clients and teammates alike. He's a great example of the expertise and teamwork that define LSI.
Thank you, Matthew, for your contributions to LSI and for helping our clients succeed every day.
