10 years ago, a family hired us to remodel the second floor of their home to include a highly customized master suite with walk-in closet, a private master bathroom with ornately tiled walk- in shower, along with two expanded bedrooms for their daughters and a full bathroom overhaul for their girls.
A decade later, they called us looking for help with the first floor of their split-level home. Their kitchen was too small and narrow, the dining room a bit tight, they didn't have access to the porch just off the back of the house, and the coat closet/pantry area was a log jam for people going into the lower level. We showed them several options for renovating the main floor and they ultimately selected the nuclear option: Remove all walls on the first floor level to create a large communal area to include kitchen, living room area and dining space that allowed access to the back porch.
We installed a beam running the full length of the space to facilitate removal of the walls and installed hydronic toe kick heaters to replace the fin tube heaters we removed. We replaced the insulation using Nu Wool cellulose insulation installed by the professionals at Airlock Insulation. We installed Pro Via new windows and doors which allowed the family direct access to the back porch which was previously only accessible by walking downstairs then around the back yard to the covered porch. They opted for Shiloh hardwood maple cabinetry in Harbor (dark blue) and Cambria Quartz countertops in Portrush. We wrapped up the kitchen with a white ceramic wall tile installed in a herringbone pattern, and lit the entire space with a combination of recessed lights and pendants
Prior to this renovation, the clients had never enjoyed the creature comfort of having a refrigerator with ice maker and water dispenser, nor the simple joy of using an exhaust hood that vented steam and cooking smells outside. We delivered on these seemingly insignificant requests and then some. How can we help you with your renovation dreams?
