One of the most overlooked issues we see in South Louisiana isn’t actually temperature… it’s humidity.
We were recently called out to a home that constantly felt damp and clammy even while the AC was running. The homeowner’s complaint wasn’t necessarily “it’s hot” — it was that the house never truly felt dry or comfortable.
After performing a full psychrometric and airflow evaluation, we found the original system was moving too much airflow across the evaporator coil for the conditions of the home. The equipment was cooling the air, but it was not removing moisture effectively.
The original system was operating around:
• 1200 CFM airflow
• ~31,000 BTU delivered capacity
• Only a 14.9° temperature split
• Supply dew point around 46°
What that translates to in real-world terms:
➡️ The thermostat satisfied too quickly
➡️ The system shut off too often
➡️ Humidity stayed trapped inside the structure
➡️ The home continued feeling damp and uncomfortable
Instead of just replacing equipment and walking away, we engineered the new system specifically around latent heat removal and humidity control.
What we changed:

✔️ Tuned the blower for lower coil temperatures
✔️ Optimized evaporator performance for dehumidification

Final operating results:
• ~995 CFM airflow

• 25.5° temperature split
• Supply dew point reduced to nearly 41°
• Massive increase in latent heat (moisture) removal

Today was a reminder of what this business is really about.

I got a call from a lady who told me another company had diagnosed her system with a bad compressor and wanted me to quote replacing it. Before just throwing numbers around, I asked her to send me the model and serial number so I could at least get an idea of parts availability and pricing.

Turns out it was a 13-year-old R410A system.

I called the supply house, priced the compressor, refrigerant, filter driers, recovery, flush, evacuation, startup procedures, and follow-up return trip to remove the suction line drier. I explained to her that if the compressor truly had failed, she’d be looking at roughly $3,500 in repairs. I also explained something most companies don’t talk about… compressor failures usually happen for a reason. There can be underlying issues like airflow problems, metering device issues, contamination, or electrical faults that may still need to be addressed afterward. On a 13-year-old system, replacing a compressor can become a gamble.

I told her before making any major decisions, I wanted to verify the diagnosis myself onsite.

When I arrived, I started from the beginning:
• Verified incoming voltage — good
• Checked compressor windings for grounding — good
• Checked winding resistance — good

Then I got to the capacitor… and immediately noticed something wasn’t right.

The herm side of the capacitor was wired to the fan motor.
The fan side was wired to the compressor.

First red flag.

Then I checked the capacitor itself and found a 45/7.5uf capacitor installed on a system that called for a 45/5uf 370v capacitor.

Second red flag.

I pulled the correct capacitor off my truck, rewired everything properly, powered the system up… and boom. Compressor started right up. Fan running. System cooling.

I checked amp draws — all good.
Checked pressures — slightly overcharged but acceptable.
Checked airflow and temperature split — all good.

What this lady thought was going to be a compressor replacement or possibly an entire new system ended up being a properly wired $340 repair.

Could that 13-year-old system fail someday? Absolutely.
But now she has time. Time to plan. Time to budget. Time to make a smart decision instead of a panicked one.

And that’s what this business is about.

Not selling people what they don’t need.
