A beautiful bathroom doesn't always mean a well-designed bathroom.

When planning a shower remodel, one small detail can make a big difference in everyday comfort: **where you place the shower controls.**

Think about it. Can you turn on the water without stepping inside and getting wet while waiting for the right temperature?

The location of the controls, glass enclosure, and showerhead should be considered together—not as separate design decisions.

Before finalizing your bathroom layout, ask yourself:

• Can I reach the controls comfortably from outside the shower?

• Will the glass door interfere with access?

• Where will the water spray begin?

**Good design isn't just about how a space looks. It's about how well it works for the people using it.**

Swipe through our carousel to see why these details matter.

Why Your Paint Color Looks Different at Home

Have you ever chosen a paint color you absolutely loved, only to discover that it looked completely different once it was on your walls?

It's more common than you might think.

And the reason isn't necessarily that you chose the wrong color.

Color never exists in isolation.

The amount of natural light, the direction of the windows, the flooring, the trim, and even your furniture can influence how a paint color appears.

A muted green might look sophisticated in a showroom but appear darker or cooler in your living room.

A warm neutral can change noticeably between morning sunlight and evening artificial lighting.

That's why choosing paint from a small sample card isn't always enough.

Before approving a color, ask for a larger sample in the finish you're considering.

Review it directly in the room, alongside the materials and furnishings that will remain.

Observe how it behaves at different times of day, especially under the lighting you normally use.

If you're comparing several colors, evaluate each individually as well as beside the alternatives. Nearby colors can influence your perception.

And once you've made your decision, document the exact color reference and finish to avoid confusion during painting.

Testing won't guarantee that a color looks identical under every lighting condition, but it gives you a much better understanding of what to expect.

Great interior design isn't simply about choosing beautiful colors. It's about choosing colors that work together in the space where you live.

REVIEW THE CEILING TOGETHER | Why Ceiling Design Should Never Be an Afterthought

When planning a renovation, we tend to focus on what happens at eye level.

The kitchen cabinets, furniture, wall finishes, and flooring usually receive most of our attention.

But what about the ceiling?

It's easy to think of it as a simple surface where we install recessed lights and ventilation grilles.

In reality, the ceiling brings together several systems that need to work in coordination.

Lighting, ventilation, architectural details, and nearby cabinetry can all influence the final arrangement.

Imagine a beautifully planned kitchen where a ventilation grille ends up awkwardly positioned beside a decorative ceiling feature, or recessed lights are installed without considering the location of tall cabinets.

Individually, each decision might make sense. Together, they may create an unbalanced result.

Before the relevant work is finalized, ask your project team to review the proposed ceiling elements on a single coordinated drawing.

Consider how their locations relate to the room below, which elements can be adjusted, and which are limited by equipment or building requirements.

Required maintenance access also needs to be considered.

As a homeowner, you don't need to resolve the technical details yourself. That's the responsibility of the appropriate professionals.

But you can help communicate what matters visually and functionally.

Good interior design happens when the details are coordinated, not when each decision is made separately.

PLAN PRIVACY AFTER DARK | Your Curtains Look Great During the Day. But What About at Night?

Choosing curtains or shades usually begins with colors, fabrics, and textures.

And there's nothing wrong with that. A beautiful window treatment can completely transform a room.

But appearance is only part of the decision.

Have you considered what happens when the sun goes down?

A sheer fabric may soften daylight beautifully while providing much less privacy than expected when interior lights are on.

That's why choosing the right window treatment should begin with understanding how the room is used.

A bedroom may require greater privacy at night, while a living room might benefit from flexible layers that preserve the view during the day.

Before selecting a product, consider a few practical details:

• Privacy: How does the material perform when interior lights are on after dark?

• Functionality: Can curtains or shades open and close without interfering with furniture or window handles?

• Space: Where will the fabric gather when the treatment is fully opened?

• Installation: If you're remodeling, has the mounting location been coordinated with the cabinetry, ceiling, and surrounding finishes?

Ask your supplier about the actual performance of the material rather than relying only on how it looks in a showroom.

A successful interior isn't just beautiful in photographs. It works throughout the day and night.

COMPARE THE INCLUDED WORK | Why the Lowest Remodeling Estimate Isn't Always the Best Deal

Imagine receiving two remodeling proposals for the same project.

One costs significantly less than the other.

At first glance, the decision seems simple. But before choosing, there's an important question:

Are both contractors actually proposing the same work?

Start by placing the descriptions of work side by side.

Compare which rooms are included, what demolition is required, which installations are covered, and who is responsible for the finishing details.

Then look at the materials.

Does the contractor supply them, or are you expected to purchase them separately?

Are the selections already defined, or does the proposal include an allowance—a budgeted amount for materials or products that haven't been selected yet?

An allowance isn't necessarily a problem. But understanding what it covers, and how choosing a more expensive product affects the final price, is essential.

Also review assumptions about existing conditions, cleanup, debris removal, and anything specifically excluded.

If something isn't clear, ask for clarification in writing before making your decision.

Two different prices don't always represent the same project.

Understanding what you're paying for is one of the smartest decisions you can make before starting a renovation.

LOOK BELOW THE FINISH | What Should You Check Before Installing New Flooring?

Choosing new flooring is exciting. Colors, textures, materials… there's plenty to consider.

But one important detail is often overlooked: the condition of the surface underneath.

Before committing to a new floor, ask your installer to evaluate the existing base and explain what preparation may be necessary.

Find out which inspections are required, what work is included in the original estimate and how unexpected conditions will be handled.

Sometimes, the real condition of the base cannot be confirmed until the old flooring is removed. That uncertainty should be discussed before the project begins, not after an unexpected expense appears.

And remember: different flooring products have different installation requirements. A base suitable for one material may not be appropriate for another.

The question every homeowner should ask:

What needs to be confirmed before this particular flooring can be installed according to the manufacturer's requirements?

Good planning protects your investment, and good design begins long before the final finish is installed.

When a remodel is finished, what should you keep for later?

A good project handover is not only about seeing the finished result. It is also about leaving the homeowner with useful information for maintenance and future reference.

That may include product names, finish references, appliance manuals, care instructions, warranty documents, and notes about any remaining follow-up items.
It also helps to keep photographs, leftover materials, or touch-up information organized in one place so you can actually find them when needed.
The goal is simple: once the work is done, you should know how to care for what was installed.

What would you want included in your remodel handover folder? Tell us in the comments.

A dining nook doesn’t need built-in seating to feel well designed.
For this concept, we used a mid-century modern approach with a freestanding table, movable chairs, warm wood finishes, and a compact sideboard.

The idea is simple: create a space that feels intentional but can still adapt to everyday life.

That might mean breakfast, homework, a casual meal, or making room for one more person when needed.

The clean lines and functional character of mid-century modern design work well in this kind of space because they keep the room visually organized without making it feel permanent or overbuilt.

Approving the tile is only half of the visual decision.
The layout matters too.

Before installation begins, it helps to review how the tile will actually be arranged in the space. That includes where the pattern starts, how cuts will land at the edges, and how the layout lines up with nearby features.

If the tile has a pattern, it’s also worth asking for a layout drawing or a dry arrangement so the direction is clear.

And don’t forget the grout color. It can have a big effect on the final appearance.
You don’t need to define the installation yourself, but you should understand the visible layout before saying yes.

Save this tile-layout reminder for your next installation review.
