Flowing with Pearls Custom made handmade jewelry created by Cathi Rivera By incorporating fused glass, pearls, clay and bone I am able to capture a moment in nature.

Luminescence, botanical and marine organic forms inspire me to create my unique sculptural pieces of wearable art. As a metal artist, I enjoy creating fluid forms that appear soft, warm and inviting out of a usually cold and rigid material. When I fuse the glass in each piece, the dichroic elements remind me of the iridescence of butterfly wings, tropical fish, sunsets, coral reefs, and life in tr

opical Florida. Each piece is hand fabricated using traditional metalsmithing techniques. The materials I use with the silver, brass, bronze, and copper are collected from the many places I travel, bone from Africa, clay pieces from Ankor Wat, glass pieces from Venice, sand from Tibet, and rocks from the Valley of Kings in Egypt. Each piece tells a special story and shares a spiritual connection with another place and time. When wearing one of my pieces, others are drawn closer to examine and talk about the work, and that’s where the story begins.

This pendant features sterling silver paired with carved agate, boxwood, pearls, and glass beads—woven together with silk and finished with a gold-filled toggle. Suspended gracefully on a 21" glass beaded necklace, it measures 2" × 2" × 1".
