Happy Halloween. Here’s the genuinely scary part of a South Florida home: the inside of the air handler.
It’s dark, it’s damp from pulling humidity out of the air all day, and it’s warm. When the condensate drain line clogs or the coil gets dirty, you get standing water — and the musty smell that hits you when the AC kicks on.
Signs to watch for: 👻 A musty or “wet sock” smell from the vents 👻 Water around the indoor unit or a stained ceiling below it 👻 The system shutting itself off (a float switch doing its job)
Routine maintenance flushes the drain line and cleans the coil before any of that starts. Not scary at all.
