๐จ๐ฆ Big news for Canadian homeowners: a federal heat pump rebate is on the way. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Thursday in Sherbrooke, Que., that a new national heat pump rebate program will launch in early 2027, and it will be retroactive to this fall.
What we know so far:
โ
Up to $10,000 back for households below the median income
โ
$2,000 for other homeowners who make the switch
โ
$2 billion budgeted over eight years, with a goal of retrofitting one million homes
โ
Aimed at homeowners whose heating system has broken down or is nearing the end of its life Worth knowing: Full program details are still being finalized, and officials acknowledged that in regions where natural gas is cheap, switching to a heat pump may not lower your heating bill.
If your system is due for replacement, now is a good time to start looking at your options.
