River Party at Sycamore Park!
When: Sep 12, 2026, 12 to 3 PM
Where: Sycamore Park

River Party on Saturday, September 12th from 12-3 at Sycamore Park (3 miles S of Bristol Village off Rte 116)!

Addison County River Watch invites you to join us at the majestic and nature-filled Sycamore Park for a River Party. There will be lots of fun, food, and music!

Activities include: a passport- style scavenger hunt to make adventurous discoveries in the park; a close look at bugs and crawly things that live in the river; a Wade, Dabble and Float for those who want to get their feet (and maybe more!) wet; and a bird walk and exploration with Audubon Vermont.

Food will be delicious empanadas with fixin's from Viva el Sabor, and the music stage will feature move-along and sing-along tunes from the Tadpoles (12:30-1:30) and foot-stomping Americana from the duo Shacket (2:00-3:00).

Celebrate our local rivers, community and the last blast of summer!

Partnering in this event are Audubon VT, the Bristol Rec Department, Lewis Creek Association, Bristol Town, and Bristol Conservation Commission.

The Pyrocene: Living in a New Age of Fire

Join the Cary Institute for a science conversation featuring environmental historian Stephen Pyne, a leading authority on the relationship between people and fire, including the history of fire management. He will be joined by Cary ecologist Winslow Hansen, who directs a national collaborative aimed at reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfires. Pyne and Hansen will discuss how our relationship with fire has changed, from ancient, mutual dependence to today’s era of megafires. Pumpkin Hill Invasives Workshop

VT Coverts and the Danville Conservation Commission are co-sponsoring a workshop on invasive plants at the Pumpkin Hill Town Forest. Join us as we host AJ Follensbee, Caledonia County Forester, and Tim Mckay, Coverts Cooperator and well-known Conservationist as they provide instruction on identifying and managing invasive plants. They will also share an overview of the Town Forest features and the Forest Management Plan. Groups will work to remove invasive plants, while learning how to manage them on their own property. Fall Bird Migration Paddle on the Missisquoi River

Mac’s Bend Parking Area (access via Louie’s Landing), Swanton, VT
Join Vermont River Conservancy, the Friends of Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, and the Northern Forest Canoe Trail for a morning of paddling, birdwatching, and learning on the Missisquoi River. This free event is planned at a time when some fall migrants might be observed. Participants will paddle the scenic Missisquoi River while learning about bird migration and the diverse habitats that support wildlife along the river. This paddle is appropriate for paddlers and birders of all skill levels. Registration is required. Driving Directions: Go through the gate at Louie’s Landing and drive approximately one mile north along the river to the parking area. Rain Date: Sunday, September 6. Understanding Bears and Coexistence Strategies

Join Coverts Bear Ambassadors Jan Fraga and Caitlin Cusack to learn fascinating facts about bears and strategies to be sure they are not enticed into our spaces. This program will cover tips, tricks, and techniques to help you coexist with the species, including explanations of bear behaviors, methods to minimize conflict, and technology in place to protect both the bears and your property, followed by a Q&A session. Overabundant White-Tailed Deer and Our Forest Health
