Some very creative and extensive measures were taken to restore as purely as possible, Darien, Connecticut’s oldest home, the Pond-Weed House. While restoration of an old house is never really about making it look “new”, this was especially true for this project featured in our latest BLOG:

Restoration of an old house is never about making it look “new”, especially for our full restoration project on Darien, Connecticut’s oldest home, the Pond-Weed House.

Time isn’t just about minutes and hours, but also about memory, identity, and connection.

Strolling through an old European city or colonial American village, one structure often draws the eye before anything else: the clock tower. Often reaching high above rooftops and marketplaces, these architectural timekeepers have marked the passage of hours for centuries. While we no longer rely o...

As America marks 250 years, this 4th of July feels like more than a celebration of independence. It's also a reminder of the long, layered story of the places we call home – the towns, main streets, civic buildings, churches, homes, and public spaces that have shaped American life for generations.

Historic preservation plays an important role in that story. When we restore and protect older buildings, we are not just saving materials. We are saving craftsmanship, community memory, and a sense of place that helps connect the past to the present.

These buildings provide a vital, tangible reminder that history is not only found in textbooks or seen in monuments. It’s in the details we walk by every day – a neighbor’s home, a town hall, a local building that still stands because someone believed it was worth caring for.

As we celebrate the 4th of July and reflect on 250 years of American history, we at KSR are grateful to play a part in preserving the places that help tell that story. Wishing everyone a safe, meaningful, and happy Independence Day!🇺🇸

May is Preservation Month – a time to recognize the places, stories, and craftsmanship that help connect us to our shared history.
🏘️
This year carries special meaning as the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It is a fitting time to reflect on the places that help tell a fuller American story – places that hold memory, spark conversation, bring people together, and remind us of the ideals we continue working toward.
🏘️
Preservation is about more than protecting old buildings or historic landmarks. It is about honoring the people, communities, and stories connected to them. This month, we celebrate the places that matter, the hands that care for them, and the work that helps carry our past forward into the future.
