When you see our J-J Hooks® barriers along I-95, you probably think about how they help protect motorists and construction crews. That's exactly what the Concrete Safety Systems team installs them to do. But every now and then, they help with a different kind of traffic.

Recently, a family of Canadian geese needed assistance crossing I-95 in Maryland. Thanks to the Aberdeen Police Department, they were safely guided across the barrier and continued their journey. Just another reminder that roadway safety is important for everyone - even our most unexpected travelers.

It was a beautiful day for progress on the Powhite Parkway!
Smith-Midland was there installing the RMTA Gantry Towers, bringing both functionality and a custom look to the roadway.
In collaboration with AtkinsRéalis and Richardson - Wayland - Ferreira, this project is helping modernize tolling while elevating the overall design of the corridor.

Compared to traditional building methods, precast concrete improves efficiency through controlled manufacturing by reducing labor, construction waste and noise pollution. The resulting site is safer, cleaner and greener. Its durability also means fewer repairs and replacements over time, lowering overall resource use.

Precast can also contribute to lower lifecycle environmental impact, including reduced embodied carbon when projects are designed for long-term performance.
