The humble wick may seem like a small part of a candle, but it completely changed the history of candle-making. Here’s the “wicked” truth:🕯️

Before 1824, candle wicks had to be constantly trimmed while burning. Then French inventor Jean-Jacques Cambacérès introduced the braided wick — a simple but brilliant innovation that allowed the wick to curl as it burned, moving the tip out of the hottest part of the flame so it could burn naturally.

Today, the right wick remains one of the most crucial factors in achieving a clean, consistent burn. At Alene Candles, we use carefully selected lead-free wicks and never use metal-core wicks.

We are excited to support the upcoming Playhouse Build with for Humanity Greater Nashua Manchester on June 18.

We are excited to support the upcoming Playhouse Build with Habitat for Humanity Greater Nashua Manchester this Thursday.

Our Alene team will join local businesses, volunteers and community members at The Hampshire Dome to build custom children’s playhouses.

These playhouses will help support affordable housing efforts in the Greater Nashua area.

Students in the Building Trades program at Alvirne High School made the kits for the playhouses. This is a great example of hands-on learning, skilled trades education and community teamwork.

Money raised from the event will go to Habitat’s affordable housing and Critical Home Repair programs, helping local families have safe and stable homes.

The event brings the community together to support students in need. Proceeds from the walk will fund essential graduation items, such as caps, gowns and yearbooks for students in need, so every senior can graduate with dignity.

What started as an externally facilitated initiative has evolved into a fully employee-led program supported by dedicated LEADS Ambassadors who help guide team members year-round. By bringing the program fully in-house, Alene Candles is creating more opportunities for employees to grow professionally, build confidence and strengthen collaboration across teams.

Congratulations to Shea Hansen of Milford, recipient of this year’s Alene Candles STEM Scholarship!

Shea’s achievements at Milford High School are remarkable. A NH Scholar, National Honor Society member, magna cm laude graduate, state champion athlete and community volunteer, she exemplifies the dedication, leadership and curiosity we hope to support through this scholarship.

This fall, Shea will attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where she plans to study interdisciplinary engineering and continue her basketball career.
