VALUED CUSTOMERS,
As we continue to face an extended stretch of bitter cold, proper maintenance and smart energy management can help you stay cozy and keep your winter heating costs in check.

BASEBOARD HEATING::::::
Keep baseboard heaters clean. Regularly dusting and vacuuming the coils of your electric baseboard heaters can improve their efficiency. Dirty heaters require more energy to generate heat.

--Avoid blocking the flow of warm air. Since electric baseboard heaters use convection and natural air currents to heat your space, it’s especially important to make sure that furniture, drapes and carpets are at least one foot away from them.
--Focus on heating the rooms you use the most and close doors to unused spaces to help concentrate the heat where it’s needed. You can save up to 20% on your energy costs by keeping baseboard heaters on only in the room you’re in.
--Verify that your thermostat is functioning correctly. A faulty thermostat can lead to inaccurate temperature readings and inefficient heating. Call us if you think your thermostat is malfunctioning.
--For older baseboard heating, consider upgrading to newer, energy-efficient heating systems, such as ductless heat pumps. They’re designed to provide better performance while using less electricity.

HEAT PUMPS:::::::
--Set your thermostat to remain at a constant temperature, and limit any adjustments to 3°F or less so your heat pump doesn’t run inefficiently to catch up. The DOE recommends setting HVAC systems to 68°F in the winter, or lower while you’re asleep or away.
--Use “heat” mode for your heat pump’s temperature setting (instead of “auto”). Then set the heat pump fan on “auto.”
--If you have a backup heating system, set your heat pump higher and the backup system lower so that the heat pump is doing most of the work. If your backup system is the only source of heating in places like your basement, be sure it’s set high enough so that pipes won’t freeze.

OTHER::::::
--Check for leaks and seal drafty areas of your home with weatherstripping or caulk. You can place draft stoppers (TOWELS) at the bottom of doors to minimize heat loss.
Use your ceiling fans to move warm air around a room, allowing you to turn down your thermostat a few degrees and save energy.

ATTENTION:

Dear valued customers and friends,
With winter storm Fern approaching quickly, we kindly ask for your patience as we “weather this storm” together. Our team is here for you, but we are already experiencing a high volume of service calls and growing waitlists. We will continue prioritizing appointments based on urgency and true emergencies. We sincerely hope you won’t need our services during this storm, but if you do, please know we will do everything we can to help.

Below are a few important tips to help protect your HVAC system and plumbing during the heavy snow and extreme cold:

-Keep your thermostat set as low as comfortably possible. These temperatures force your equipment to work significantly harder, increasing the risk of malfunctions.

-Avoid raising your thermostat more than 2–3 degrees at a time.

-If you live in a mobile home or have exposed pipes, cover them as best you can. You may call our office for guidance on temporary materials. Pipes that are uninsulated, above ground, or not located in a basement are at high risk of freezing and bursting. In these cases, allowing faucets to trickle warm water can prevent major damage. The small increase in your water bill is far less costly than repairing burst pipes.

-If you are using alternate heat sources such as propane or oil heaters, ensure they are placed in safe, well‑ventilated locations.

-If you rely on propane, oil, or gas heaters—whether temporarily or permanently—please check your carbon monoxide detectors and confirm the batteries are working. If you do not have a Carbon Monoxide detector, you can purchase one from A & S. We currently have battery operated as well as hard wired detectors in stock and would be happy to install it for you at minimal cost.

-Stock up on essential food items, water, blankets, and keep phones fully charged in case of power outages.

BRING PETS INDOORS. If you see an animal left outside without proper shelter, please contact local authorities!
Check on elderly family members and neighbors!

Stay safe, stay warm, and thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,
Your friends at A&S Mechanical Heating and Cooling Inc.
