SLD Technology

SLD Technology Providing the best air delivery performance in a modular contamination control system, allowing for fast, cost-effective installation. installed separately.

SLD Technology, LLC designs and manufactures systems and components that simplify design, speed installation and deliver superior performance in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Common applications include modular ceiling systems for operating rooms (OR), procedure rooms, exam rooms and pharmacies requiring unidirectional, low turbulence (laminar) airflow for close temperature and humidi

ty control, and airborne contaminant removal. SLD Technology products are based around the concept of a Single Large Diffuser (SLD) delivering a contiguous blanket of laminar airflow to most effectively sweep airborne contaminants away from the surgical site, patient and providers in the OR. Our ability to incorporate integral lighting and structural equipment mounting elements in complete, factory-built modules that are installed as a single piece makes us unique versus suppliers providing Multiple Diffuser Array (MDA) systems built onsite using independent components (diffusers, lighting, structural supports, etc.)

A new benchmark for cardiovascular surgical environments in New England.

Elliot Health System has unveiled its new state-of-the-art 1,000-square-foot Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) — one of the largest specialty cardiac ORs in New England. Designed to support highly complex cardiovascular procedures including CABG, aortic and mitral valve repair and replacement, the space reflects the next evolution of surgical environment design focused on performance, flexibility, and patient outcomes.

Featuring AirFRAME® with VLD™ integration, this project highlights the impact of early coordination and collaboration across the project team:

Another milestone installation underway at the WellSpan Health Critical Care Tower.

This recent SLD Technology AirFRAME® installation showcases the scale, coordination, and structural flexibility required for today’s advanced operating room environments.

Featuring 9’ drops throughout supported by all-thread rod suspension, the project includes complex hybrid secondary steel integration spanning between ORs and adjacent corridors — a testament to the collaboration and precision behind every install.

With only three rooms remaining, the transformation is already making an impact. As project teams noted onsite, this level of integration and adaptability would have been extremely difficult to achieve with traditional stick-built construction.

Built for performance. Designed for the future of healthcare.

“We’ve always done it this way.”

In construction, that mindset can quietly become one of the biggest barriers to innovation.
It can slow progress, create resistance to change, and keep teams tied to outdated processes simply because they’re familiar.

Healthcare construction continues to evolve — and prefabrication is helping lead that transformation.

At SLD Technology, AirFRAME® was designed to rethink how integrated ceiling systems are coordinated, manufactured, and installed. By shifting critical coordination and assembly upstream, teams can reduce uncertainty in the field while improving efficiency, quality, and project delivery.

Why prefabrication with AirFRAME matters:
✔ Front-loaded coordination of all ceiling trades and vendors
✔ Pre-engineered MEP performance for efficiency and reliability
✔ Factory-built modules assembled in a controlled environment
✔ Reduced risk in general conditions
✔ Compressed construction timelines for faster project completion
✔ Single-source responsibility that minimizes risk and streamlines submittals
✔ Fewer site conflicts and reduced change orders

Innovation doesn’t happen by staying comfortable with the status quo.
The future of healthcare construction is being built through smarter coordination, better integration, and more predictable outcomes.

Today, SLD Technology celebrates 11 years of innovation in healthcare environments.

Over 15 years ago, SLD engineers redefined what was possible with the first fully integrated modular ceiling design. That spirit of innovation continues today — and the next wave is already underway.

For more than a decade, we’ve remained committed to designing solutions that reduce risk, improve performance, and help create safer operating rooms. From AirFRAME® — the original integrated modular ceiling system — to the future of airflow innovation, SLD continues to push the industry forward.

With 24 patents awarded and 14 more pending, innovation remains at the core of everything we do.

We’re grateful for the hospitals, engineers, design teams, contractors, and partners who have trusted us along the way. Thank you for being part of the journey.

AirFRAME® remains the original and most trusted system on the market. The innovation continues.

We’re looking forward to the 2026 Society for Healthcare Engineering, Inc. (CSHE) Annual Institute this Thursday, May 14.

Chris Mercurio, PE, MBA, LEED AP, HFDP will be presenting the poster:

“THE USE OF POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE (PTFE) HEPA FILTERS AS AN ENABLING TECHNOLOGY IN OPERATING ROOM CONSTRUCTION”

The presentation explores how PTFE HEPA filtration technology can support healthcare facility design through improved durability, reduced pressure drop, and long-term operational efficiency in critical environments like operating rooms.

Stay tuned for an upcoming white paper and case study highlighting the research, implementation, and project outcomes behind this work.

Proud to support innovative healthcare environments at UCI Health, home to the United States’ first all-electric hospital campus. Designed with flexibility, resiliency, and the future of healthcare delivery in mind, the project showcases forward-thinking approaches to patient care environments and operational efficiency.

With universal room concepts, increased air changes, and infrastructure designed to support evolving decontamination requirements, the project reflects a proactive approach to healthcare design — helping prepare facilities for both today’s demands and future challenges.

SLD Technology was proud to contribute the original and most trusted modular ceiling system, AirFRAME. Through modular prefabrication, systems can be constructed offsite in a controlled factory setting, helping reduce risk, improve coordination, accelerate installation schedules, and support teams balancing escalating construction costs.
